Really [to bold "singers"]??? lol

With exception of Mavis Staples, Bonnie Raitt [& Chaka Kahn....I guess disbelief], everyone here is more unique than great in the singing department [I would say the same for Prince himself vocally].

You're questioning the singing talents of Chaka Khan? If so, any credibility you may have had on this topic just got flushed down the toilet...an airplane toilet...and it got dumped somewhere over Idaho.

And, hell, you're questioning the singing talents of PRINCE? lol

Because, Chaka Khan screams for the most part [in the same vain that Prince used Bonnie, Rosie, & Shelby.....disbelief]. Chaka's best work was with Rufus.

Prince vocally is more unique than Great, imho.

I forgot about Andy Allo...

And Nikka Costa...

And Angie Stone...

Gotta rank them somewhere, too nod...

All 3 were already established before Prince. Andy vocally is highly average.

Bria-hell no. Vocals are highly forgettable.

Mayte? Madonna? Wendy? Lisa? Susannah? Martika? wink

If Bria's vocals are highly forgettable, then so is Susannah's, Mayte's, Wendy's and Lisa's lol...Also, I wasn't counting females that were in his band, or else I'd be adding Bonnie Boyer and Rosie Gaines to the first list. thumbs up! (sheila E is the exception since she was in his band after he worked with her.)

I think Tittypants posted these as examples of singers who has worked with Prince without having great voices.

The wooh is on the one!

The question was about the level of talent (singing or overall) of the females Prince has worked with...not whether or not he brought out their best performances.

And Prince has one of the most versatile voices in music...Remember this from Rolling Stone?

"Prince is the boldest black singer in postmodern music, hands down," says Roots drummer Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson. "His voice has multiple personalities, he's fearless, and when he screams, he truly sounds like he's crazy." Indeed, that throat-shredding climax to "The Beautiful Ones" sure feels like a man who has lost his mind — it's as convincing as the passion dripping from the lighter-than-air falsetto in "Adore," the pure-rock shouting of "Let's Go Crazy" or the robotic deadpan of "When Doves Cry." "His vocals are just limitless," says Lenny Kravitz. "There's the androgynous, very feminine Prince, there's the James Brown-style Prince, the gospel Prince, the rock & roll Prince. He has so many different textures and dimensions with his voice — and everything is funky."

&? Prince has chosen highly questionable people to put on himself [pretty much all are not vocally anything much @ all]. Every established artist he worked with is not super talented either. That is my point. I can't really rely on Prince making quality music with any of the vocalist he works with ether. A lot of the music he's done for others is less than 50/50, imo. So, for people to be so offended that he wants to do music with Rita Ora is odd to me. Combine all of the female vocal artist Prince brought out, with who he has worked with [from the already established], & the music is not that great. I'm sorry. shrug That it all.

You're all over the map lol...

The original topic was whether or not Rita Ora was talented enough to work with Prince.

You basically said that most of the females Prince has worked with weren't talented (at least at singing), and that the females he worked with that were talented could be counted on one hand....someone else agreed with you (can't remember who).

Had nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not the females had their careers already started.

Had nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not they did their best work with Prince.

Had nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not we individually liked the musical output from their working together.

It ONLY had to do with the level of talent these women possessed (again, singing or overall) that Prince has worked with.

You said the number of talented female singers Prince has worked with could be counted on one hand. I gave a list that I felt proved that to be wrong. You responded by saying which singers you felt deserved to be called talented, and which ones did not. I did the same back (sort of lol).

Everything else is one million percent irrelevant.

If Rita Ora was a Prince protoge' and you were comparing her to his past protoge's, you'd be on far more solid footing. But she's not, and you weren't (or shouldn't have been, anyway), so you're not lol biggrin...

Ah, I gotcha now...I would agree with all four of those. I was taking "unique singer" as being "something that you just don't hear anyone else doing." Karen Carpenter was a fantastic singer, but she was also unique in that you did NOT hear a voice like her on almost any other songs on the radio. Whitney isn't as unique--there are others who sing in a similar manner...then again, I think she had great vocal talent but too often let the theatrics of her vocal delivery take control, as if showing off her vocal range mattered more to her than conveying the emotion of the lyrics and complimenting the melody. She started approaching every song the exact same way. She over-embellished too much for my liking.

As an example, though, I think Neil Finn has an incredible voice, hits every note with pure perfection and has an earnestness to his delivery that makes you feel like he has lived every word in his songs. That's rare, and qualifies as "unique" in my eyes.

WOW

Rita is a pop puppet; average talent pushed in our faces to make money for her masters.

Prince has previously stated he could not work with somebody who does not own their masters. NONE of these Tavistock instuition dimwits own anything. Their label completely owns them.

I don't but i do wish he had his masters so we could have DVDS, Blu Rays, Box sets, remasters, remixes, downloads etc.

The reason we don't have those is he wants to much money of WB to let them release the above. If Prince owned everything himself we may of got some of that.
