Do you rate When 2 R In Love and I Wish U Heaven? I'm a big Lovesexy fan but sometimes I feel these two fairly average ballads get a free pass because they're surrounded by such stellar tracks.
What's your thoughts on these songs? [Edited 10/25/13 1:54am]

Those are both lovely songs.
Is it really worth your while to come on to a Prince site and make thread after thread which is covertly knocking him? “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I like them both, so much so that for some reason i'm typing in italics (?)..
I Wish U Heaven in particular is a beautiful slice of whimsy. I can't hear this song without having the video in my head too. It's clear that Prince rated the song since he put alot of effort into the 12". "I'm much too hot to be cool"

"i wish u heaven" is the song that made me a fan, back in 1988. "when 2 r in love" is, to this day, probably my fav prince ballad.

Eye Wish U heaven is the best track on Lovesexy. Pure brilliance, straight out of left field. The other song I've never cared for.

Always loved both songs . I Wish U Heaven my favorite on the album, next to Positivity, . When 2 R in Love I like to make a playlist of his early stuff 'the Demos' FOr U, Prince music and When 2 R in Love is one song that fits in perfectly
. Like Tamborine sound/feels a lot like Tick Tick Bang

These two songs are excellent."When 2 R In Love" works much better on this album than it did on The Black Album, where it sounds totally out of place.
"I Wish U Heaven" is nice. It's simple and to the point, with very good vocal melodies throughout.

Not everything has to be an "anthem". I think there's room for for "smaller" songs on albums too. That's why the material from the Dream Factory era is so charming and I think that's what makes Emancipation far more suitable for longer listening sessions.
I've always thought the weakest song on Lovesexy is actually "Dance On". Mostly because of the chorus.

What's your thoughts on these songs? [Edited 10/25/13 1:54am] They work within the context of the album. With an album that great, there have to be a few places where you can catch your breath. Otherwise listening to Lovesexy would be an exhausting experience. Glam Slam and Dance On aren't the greatest songs he ever wrote either, but they're all part of the big picture. Just like Do U Lie on Parade, a little ditty to get you ready for...oh well, you know what comes next. An album is more than a collection of songs. It's a musical trip. (A good album anyway.) 'I Wish U Heaven' is not only my favourite song on Lovesexy (my favourite Prince album)... it's my favourite song by Prince.
From a sonic, melodic, harmonic, and narrative stance, it still blows me away to this day. We all know that Prince can play the hell out of anything - so when he opts for a simple, almost rudimentary melody and rhythm, it generally means he's trying to be honest. The verse is only two chords, but it conveys so much emotion and power.
And then that chorus... I don't know who here plays, but those chords are surprisingly unconventional compared to what we heard in the verse. And the lyric... he says it, and then he says it again. No trickery, he just wants 'U' to get the message.
And that augmented 5th at the end resolving to the major? Pure bliss...

I agree.I tried, but I could never really get into that song. The message is great, but the song itself sounds unfinished.

I adore When 2 R In Love. It's one of my favorite slow songs by Prince, and one of my favorite P songs of all time. Simple, intimate, sensual and beautiful. It's very underrated. I love everything about it, the falsetto vocals, music, lyrics, & Prince speaking. It's poetry set to music. I Wish U Heaven is one of my picks from Lovesexy, and I also like the video. I just loved the vibe and feel of the whole Lovesexy era. Great output of music and energy. Thank you Prince.

I love "I Wish U Heaven"--"When 2 R in Love" is the weakest song on two albums.

Dance On is one of those tracks you have to take on its' own terms. It's a wild, rollicking little slice of anarchy. The chorus doesn't exactly soar, but the arrangement gives it punch.
It's way better than the title track which is self-consciously trying to be an anthem, but only half succeeding. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”
