Musicology is his worst album in my opinion, it makes new power soul look like a masterpiece in comparison. It's the most boring, uninspired album in Prince's entire career. 3121 is also pretty dull and boring, I only like Te amo corazon and the Dance, the rest doesn't do it 4 me.

WAT????? 3121? Musicology? For me Rave is much worse than either album

I'd have to say The Black album and The Gold Experience are Prince's worst works. The Black al was just plain crazy. The Gold outside Pussy Control thumbs down. It only sold 1 million and is out of print. Don't know about his MP3 onlys.

Kind of like MIchael strange...sell huge in '84 then go way down on the next album. What are your least faveorite Prince works?

U may not like these albums and that's really all about personnal taste but your arguments don't really stand. Being "plain crazy" is probably among the best qualities u could name about any work of art. As for TGE I don't see how its sales could have anything to do with its quality in a world where sales completely depend on marketing. WB didn't spend a dollar to promote TGE. Most of the best musical works of modern music history didn't sell shit, while dozens of crappy albums sold several millions. Later on u say "it takes 10 millions to be a superstar". Being a superstar has nohing to do with the musical talent of an individual. I doubt anyone can seriously claim that Celine Dion is more talented than, say, Ani DiFranco or Joni Mitchell, still she sold 15 times as many albums. And when u say that such album is better than such other, please remember that everything is opinion and highly debatable: u really need to be prepared to be able to back-up your claim with solid arguments when u're gonna say that Musicology is a better album than The Black ALbum. I myself like Rave better than The Black Album, but I wouldn't have the guts to try and demonstrate that it's better, it's just me and my sensibility here ^^

We've had countless threads about this and the consensus seem to be that Kamasutra is Prince's worst album, something I agree with. Carmen Electra probably comes right after Kamasutra. Newpower Soul and Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic ain't too popular either but I happen to love both of them so IDK.

Yep to all of that nod...Too many people think that because they don't like an album it isn't any good, so they don't need to provide any arguments to back up their viewpoints: the viewpoint itself is the argument. Extrapolating our own personal tastes into a valid critique about the artistic merits of a work of art is either naive or arrogant.

I concur.
Possibly his worst 'pop' album, to my taste, tho I am convinced by any objective listener.

I should of course immediately agree that this album was his 'comeback' to the 'popular' crowd and the 'mainstream'. It sold great. But that's just the problem of it. Prince had to make his worst album ever in order to make a 'comeback'. That's how bad 'popular music' sucks these days.

The production values on Rave suck ass...ruined some songs that could have been much better with a cleaner sound.

And yes crazy sells. That's how Prince became the artist. See there's a different rhytm only you get it cracy. And there's just plainn crazy. Prince seriously sounds deranged or drunk on that album.

I like the black album expect 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton, its a terrible track. And I also get the feeling that there's something missing in that album, it doesn't feel complete. Maybe he should have replaced 2 nigs and adding another 2 songs.

Wtf, eek eek eek

haven't you listened?? - or: are you nuts, fluid..?? lol

the Dirty Mind album ('80) is a classic, masterpiece 10/10, and rated very high also by: Rolling Stone iirc.

For You ('78) and Prince (album #2) ('79) are great as well,

These 2 are sweet Prince albums. Sounds a bit like Stevie Wonder music, imho....

fan-tastic albums all 3..... wink music

Prince's Worst Work

Well I would not say its his own albums. I think the stuff on Carmen Electra and a few other lesser proteges like Robin Power is much worse. Some of the albums suggested make me question if some of the people suggesting them are even fans. The Gold Experience and Dirty Mind are amongst the best and most groundbreaking work he is done.

The joy of Prince, is that even his lesser albums have 1 or 2 songs that are still amazing and do enough to retain my interest. His worst album is probably New Power Soul and some of you don't even think its a Prince album. It still has Come On, The One and Wasted Kisses which are all great. To me the Rainbow Children has some of his most repellent lyrical content, but the musicality on the songs is still great and She Loves me for me and Last December along with 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 are stone classics.

Kamasutra is also boring, but its just a backing soundtrack, so I can let it slide. I think worst work would be the stuff with the lack of quality control. Princes albums up to and including Lovesexy, his quality control was tight, every song belonged, but after that rubbish joins the gems. Jughead and Solo would have never made it on to an 80s album. I find Rave and NEWS fairly boring and consider these amongst his worst work, but still a great job by my standards.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
