B Sides for Musicology

Does any1 remember back when Musicology came out - Were there not a few B-sides released with it after the CD was out for awhile?

I'm looking to finish my project of putting all Prince Albums on my Itunes in which I am adding all B sides that go with all Albums. I can not find these songs titles anywhere.

Any1 know or remember the titles? music

SILVER TONGUE

GLASSCUTTER

His version of Purple House cam out around that time as well.

And the original version of The Dance came out on the Chocolate Invasion then as well, if you don't count that as a real album.

Magnificent (Musicology), United States of Division (Cinnamon Girl), and Silver Tongue (Call my name) were all virtual B-sides for Musicology. Dear Mr. Man (live at Webster Hall) was a "B-side" on the UK CD single for Cinnamon Girl

United States Of Division was on a CD release of Cinnamon Girl as well. Possibly with the live Dear Mr Man and the Cinnamon Girl video? I'm too lazy to go look at my copy.

It is for sure. But there's something almost just as irritating in it sound. Never could totally warm to it. I still suspect it might have been High/Peace era track based on its production.

Gotta disagree with that sentiment. USoD was one my favorite tracks from musicology era, which was a pretty cool time. It should've been on the album, in favor of tracks 2, 3, 4, or 6.

I have a feeling this was from the aborted Madrid 2 Chicago album. It has the same plasticy drum sound as Madrid and Breathe. I think with a little remix this one could've been even better.

Where do you guys place GLASSCUTTER in the scheme of things? Was it a Musicology-era one off track? Also, how about SST/BRAND NEW ORLEANS? What about F.U.N.K. and The Song of the Heart? Are they 3121-era or Planet Earth-era one off tracks? I am just trying to compile extended Deluxe albums of Musicology - 20Ten, and there are a few of these odd tracks lying around the cutting room floor.

as we say in dutch they kind of fell "between the ship and the dock"

i can't see them fit onto any period book ending them.

perhaps with a bit of a stretch you could place "extraloveable '11"

on a different version of 20Ten (together with "rich friends") but I

can't really see IALRWNL fitting anywhere that well. plus the sound

of it is just to low/bad to flow nicely with any album's tracks.

and one more thing "silver tongue is better than reflection" eek WTH?

you should be spanked for that, Spirit!

for me, F.U.N.K. fits best with the Lotusflower tracks, including the ones

from that project/those sessions that ended up on Planet Earth and 3121.

.

STT/Brand New Orleans is solidly Musicology era for me, even if they did

come a bit later.

.

Glasscutter is a very difficult one to place anywhere. I suppose you could

lump it in with the Musicology era. i hadn't really thought about that one

before. together with Magnificent and STT it could replace some songs on

Musicology that i dislike so much i never listen to the album. hmmm, let's

have a think on that one biggrin

.

Planet Earth is just beyond extending or alternating for me, it's only good

as a bag of rubble to pick bits and bobs from to put on other projects lol

.

Song Of The Heart, lastly, would probably fit onto an alternate version of

the 3121 album for me. Although it has more of a Musicology feel, it just

seems better at home amongst the 3121 stuff, toward the end of the disc.

Isten, ENOUGH with your musical aesthetics! We need DATABANK with a comprehensive list of recording dates!! I am kinda falling in love again with all these additional tracks of late, especially GLASSCUTTER, SST/BRAND NEW ORLEANS, FUNK and, strangely, even THE SONG OF THE HEART. smile

falloff

if you edit that penguin introduction speech off "song of the heart"

it automatically becomes a much more pliable track to fit in with a

bunch of other tracks from whatever era.

I'd never thought of it before, but I can sense I am going to one day try seguing the chipmunk voice at the end of BREAKFAST CAN WAIT with the opening peguin voice of THE SONG OF THE HEART on a 'best of' 2000s compilation! smile

I realize its all personal preference...but. people say the craziest stuff. I am a 180 of that statement. Magnificent sounds so empty....soulless. as appealing as a bowl of unsalted grits next to a plate of jambalaya.

I had forgotten all about "United States..." and had to listen to it again. It's a lot better than what I remembered!

Now, I can also hear how "F.U.N.K." might have very well been recorded during the same period (which is one of those things I've been a bit skeptical about).

nice analogy lol

but i know what you mean. sometimes i read how badly people hate some songs

and i go 'ooh but that's one of his best songs ever!'. taste is a weird thing. but i'm

a sucker for his "empty" songs. and the theme and sound of 'magnificent' does

something for me, i can't quite explain it.
