Make sure there is a dress code. Dress as Prince, no matter what era, or Prince associates.

I'm a big fan of games at parties. Going with the theme, a ping-pong table would be perfect.

And I love all kind of quizes, especially when people have to perform and the other has to guess.

And of course a dance area, where a DJ makes sure everybody dances.

And have a few nice punches. https://www.donnahay.com....ing/drinks

Most important is that people feel welcome and at ease. When they feel they 'have to' participate or be funny, it's no fun. I want to create the perfect atmosphere: have a good time, be yourself, even if that means you don't want to talk to anybody,

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

When I turned 40 a few years ago, I did a Prince-themed costume party. The invitations said, "It's My Party, I Can Prince if I Want To"... biggrin

  • Decorations: My personal posters and paraphernalia.
    • Each table had purple tablecloths, with a centerpiece that was an old record. I replaced the labels with Prince's eye, then fixed a music clip to it and put miniature album covers of Prince, The Time, Vanity 6, or Sheila E.
    • There was a bowl of Tootsie Pops on each table, with a picture of Prince in the doo-rag sucking on one.
  • Raspberry Beret Punch: raspberry punch with a mixture of alcohols (found online and renamed wink)
  • Costumes: Prince associate or song title... NO Prince- too cliche. And No Sheila E. That was ME. hmph! giggle
  • Music: I hooked up my iPod to a speaker system, and had enough Prince and associates to spin for hours.

Unfortunately, since my birthday is in August (102 F that day), the week before Labor Day, I didn't get the turnout I expected, but the ones who came had a ball.

My friends who dressed up came as: Jerome (2- one carried a mirror), Vanity, Apollonia, "The Gold Experience" (wore all gold), Larry Graham, Candy (she brought a sax), Dr. Fink, Dorothy Parker... biggrin

I had started a thread, but the pictures have been deleted or removed due to changes on Photobucket. Here are a few:

Everyone brings a CD with a Prince mix on it... and they put them on a table and everyone picks one and takes it home.

When I read this, I immediately thought of those little word magnets that you combine and make your own poetry, lyrics, etc. Maybe you could print out a lot of random Prince lyric words and cut them up. Then have people try to assemble into real lyrics on the wall. I'm thinking each word is about the size of a business card . . . maybe you put them in a big purple box and have everyone grab a few on their way in.
