Breakfast can wait premiered on UK BBCR2...

....last night [Jo Wiley], given a big build up etc and have to say that it was not well recieved by the listeners. It sounds like an NPS out-take, dated, trite lyrics, just awful. She said it was from the forth coming 'Plectrum Electrum' album which really doesn't bode well.

I have loved 2013 so far, great live shows, a new band, he seems energised / excited, the great live tracks from p.park, lots of new music etc..i still feel he needs someone strong in the camp to reign him in on quality control. Part of the ride / charm is that he makes these mistakes[!] but 30 years in he should know that a lead off sinlge has to be special!!

I thought Screwdriver was the lead single.

Either the album had changed yet again or (more the likely) some has read the wrong info and guessed at the BBC smile

Breakfast Can Wait is distinctly average, infact below average in every way.

It has to be one of his weakest single releases to date. Not surprised by the lukewarm reception on Radio 2.

Here in the US, Breakfast Can Wait was played on the Tom Joyner morning show this morning. It's gotten positive feedback.
I guess for most stations if a song doesn't sound like the crap they're playing these day, most listeners won't approve.

Tom Joyner actually played a song by Prince that was recorded in the 21st Century? I'm surprised Joyner stopped crying about Prince's rejecting to play his Family Reunion shows on a cruiseboat long enough to play it.

Tom always plays "new" Prince, even if it doesn't become a hit. I remember him playing "Satisfied" and "Better With Time" when they were issued as singles to radio.

You're right....Tom does tease Prince a lot about not playing the cruise or family reunion. It's a running joke. Prince did say that he would play the cruise, if he was paid a million dollars and Tom doesn't want to come up off of that.

It's a sign of how indifferent they are to quality that the media still pay any attention to new Prince singles. There are literally amateurs on soundcloud who are doing more interesting things now than Prince is.

In fact Andre Cymone's recent song about Trayvon Martin was more interesting than what Prince is doing. At least it sounds like he's awake and engaged.
