Minneapolis trip this year. where to find Prince stuff

Hi,

I have (against my better judgement) booked a trip to minneapolis. I am absolutely terrified of flying so this may be my only chance.

I will be going late October, anyone know how much snow I may in counter? ? Lol

But I would of course love to see anything P related. P. Park and 1st ave obviously, I'd also like to go to the lake used in purple rain - "that ain't lake minnetonka" it looked peaceful there. I understand the hard rock cafe is no longer there sad is there anything else people can suggest / recommend? ?

Also, what are the not so nice area's of Minne that I'd be better staying away from??

Thanks y'all xx

I love the Uptown area. Parking can be tricky sometimes but it's worth the trip. Just don't go when there's some major event going on. lol

I went in April of '87 and had a great trip. It snowed but, not much (Prince was right about April). wink

We stayed in Downtown Minneapolis, in a hotel directly across from the Minnesota Twins Stadium. I think they've built a new stadium now, someone correct me if I'm wrong. He was listed in the telephone directory back then under PRN Productions (iirc) with the address on Audubon Dr in Chanhassen (that part I'm certain of). I took a lot of pictures of Paisley Park and First Ave, but the guy I was involved with at the time kept them when I broke up with him. mad I thought about taking the hotel phone book, but my conscience prevailed. If anyone in has an old 1987 thick Minneapolis phone book saved I'd be interested in taking it off your hands... smile

You might want to bring a dynamic gps if you are driving around town and to the airport. There is some major road construction all around the airport and the outlying areas too. Need one that will re-route you 'cuz many of the on and off ramps are closed all around the area.

Check out 3420 Snelling Avenue South. It's the location of the house used for the exterior house shots in Purple Rain. (The interior was a built set.) I've seen pictures of the house on Google Maps. The owners have enclosed the front porch, so it looks slightly different, but you'll still recognize it. Even the paint colors are still the same.

This might give you some ideas. You'll see the Purple Rain house in this, too.

If you'll be there on a Sunday or Monday night, check out Dr. Mambo's Combo. Prince alumni in that group - and others often sit in. They do not play Prince music, however.
