Quietus: Lovesexy 25 years on

Nice article. Still not my favourite Prince album, but it's growing on me.

"Prince would appear to have been born with a lifetime's supply of angel dust stashed somewhere in his system. Chop his limbs off, Black Knight-style, and he'd probably have made two albums a year with his teeth."

after giving it a rest of about 5 years due to major over-playing,

i got into lovesexy again last month by way of "when 2 r in love"

and have been listening to it, pretty much, non stop for weeks.

music

i think i've listened to "positivity" and "when 2 r in love" about

100 times already since 'rediscovering' the album.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

er

Thanx 4 the link, Twilite.
Good piece, I agree with it, but... about halfway thru I started to wonder, is he even going to mention the Black Album? He did, but I still think the writer misses the point: it was the whole personal crisis Prince went through after the Black Album that led to Lovesexy. It cannot exist without its bad baby brother.
This makes me wonder about something else... but that's a different thread...

I watched the Livesexy videos tonight for the first time in years, it was a very emotional experience. I am very happy that Prince is around today and I just saw him in Montreux in great form, but 1987-1988 and 1992-1994 will always be my favourite years.
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

It's really difficult to take something seriously when it pretends to be an analysis of art but it's really a slickly coded diss of the artist that Prince has become over the past twenty years. If you want to keep my attention, just discuss Lovesexy on its own merits rather than wasting time telling the reader how disappointed you are with the work that was released after it. Lovesexy is a work of genius that deserves to be discussed on its own and not merely used as a Trojan horse to vent one’s disillusionment over the artist Prince has become.

"The album as a whole, and even more concisely, the title track itself is in my mind the best example of Prince's prolific and diverse genius. Despite having been created during the height of his 80's reign, it holds up today as a timeless masterpiece that should be experienced by all music fans and artists alike and revered as the grail of sound it is. Prince is the master."

That's hardly the point of the piece.

Well, the author shouldn't cloud the point with rambling about other aspects that do nothing to aid his analysis of the album.
