Relevant: a grossly overused and misused word.Bell, Please enlighten us, which artist/musician do you consider "relevant"? [Edited 7/27/13 17:47pm]

relevant is define as Having a significant's in the matter at hand or issue. When u release a record and that record is played all over the world that record is relevant. Not a topic of discussion. Prince may sellout tours but that don't make you relevant. James Brown soldout tours but he wasn't relevant to the mainstream. I love Prince but he's an artist with a following but that's not relevance.

... as I've matured and grown I found that mainstream is not relevant. So I can agree with you on that certain point but, P's music will always be relevant to me cool

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

You sir, are an idiot.

People who do not have anything intelligent to say normally say stupid stuff. However prince is like the Beatles they both has a great following and therefore they will always sell records or make money but that's not relevancy in the music since.

To be relevant you'd have to be consistently getting hits in the charts and i'm struggling to think of anything in the UK charts in the past 15 years thats been any good. Its all autotune, bland indie crap, pop hip hop, piss weak dance tunes and phoned-in boy/girl band shite.

So i'm glad Prince is no longer relevant and continues to make music that to me at least is still as good, interesting and entertaining as it ever was when I first listened to him in 1982.

I really hate to say it but...the first part of your statement not true but the second part is, that's the shame.

Now we know why 2013 'is gonna be big' but it's for all the wrong reasons.

This has been a very disppointing week for me reading on this site.

In the pop music biz relevant means relatable to mainstream teenagers, correct?

Getting the music world's attention because of bringing interesting musical impulses to the table. That's what I would call relevant.
