'Mad Sex'...was such a damn clever tune...worth the album for that song alone...

.

Y'all know that bassline was clever!

Its also one of the worst, the only song I love is "Come On". The One and Wasted kisses are okay, the rest is unlistenable tosh, and the accura rap - come on!

Mad Sex, Freaks on the side, Eye like funky music, Shoo bed ooh are bad filler jams

Until ure in my arms again and the other ballad (4gotten it as never listen to it are sappy)

Its down there.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

"15 years of New Power Soul" That is a prison sentence. Cruel and unusual punishment!

lol I remember being at San Francisco Pride that year (first Gay Pride ever), and it was such a blast, but I couldn't wait to get home to get the new "Prince" album. I got right off the plane and drove from the airport to Best Buy and couldn't even wait to bring it home to play it. I opened it and played it in my car in the Best Buy lot. neutral So underwhelming.

For me it just sounded like had almost no ideas going into it. The title/concept were both already used. The title track was a recycled song title and the hook was snatched from Big Fun, both on Exodus just a few years before. The "ooh, everbody's here..." was recycled for Push It Up. The chorus of Shoo Bed Ooh was nearly the same as the lead line for Come On. Not 1 but 2 songs were built around crowd chants. Everything about this record just screamed "throwaway" to me.

Shoo-Bed-Ooh is my jam! Also loved Come On, Mad Sex & Wasted Kisses. The One is one of his best slow jams!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I absolutely LOVE New Power Soul!

The songs are slamming, there are now classic jams and gems, the album has a quirky but great flow and that era was special for me as a life long Prince fan. I especially loved seeing him on Sinbad's late night show!

I still have 2 copies of my "New Power Pack" 3 CD set with Chaka, Larry and the NPG!

This was actually the "Prince" album that solidified me as an officially addicted fan. The bassline on "Mad Sex" was too infectious.

It was funny because my sister had given me about 10 Prince albums to binge listen too over a weekend. She knew I would walk out a fan, but when I told her it was New Power Soul that did it, she gave me the oddest look.

The only good thing about NPS is that Prince actually tried to do something a little bit different. Too bad that the result was quite poor, though.

my boyfriend at the time totally hated prince for some weird reason,

something like morrissey said that prince was a douche or the like.

he didn't have any prince records, naturally, and this was before we

could just go online and rack up some spotify tracks.

i kept trying to win him over, yet always forgot to bring a tape or a

disc to let him listen to.

and then one day we were in town and there was NPS, i hadn't even

heard about it being released so i bought it and when we got home

i was all like "well, now sit down and be ready to be schooled in the

art of true greatness"

falloff

needless to say NPS didn't make him see the light lol

i had to bring over SOTT the next time to make him, grudgingly,

admit that indeed prince made some killer tunes and wasn't as bad

as his hero morrissey made out lol

it took me about a decade to be able to listen to NPS without seeing

him sitting there going "if i say i like it, will you please turn it off and

just listen to it at your own home?"

falloff

also, candidate for worst cover ever ill

but these days, i sincerely do like:

mad sex

when u love somebody

shoo-bee-dooh

come on

the one

wasted kisses.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
