It's just not as good as the early stuff!

The very early stuff was pretty generic with only a few hints at the greatness to follow...but what did follow was unarguably fantastic. Witty, thought provoking and downright outrageous dispatches on the state of the world. It couldn't last. The staleness set in. Water was tred, past glories were referenced but the inevitable slide happened becoming an contradictory, angry, parody....

Prince?

No. Bart....

Aka after years of eating fabulous gourmet food, you got used to it, and called it boring.

I think every artist reaches their creative peak, usually early in their careers, and they're never really able to reach those heights ever again. It's normal.I think Prince reached his creative peak in the late 80s (SOTT and Lovesexy),but that doesn't mean that his post-1988 work isn't any good.

well, there's plenty of the old stuff to keep returning to imo. so many albums,

bsides and outtakes, live concert bootlegs etc.

.

now we're here and no it's not as magical now as it used to be and the music

became a bit more formulaic. but hey, it's still good stuff.

.

in other words we can have our cake and shit on it too. best of both worlds lol

.

meanwhile, i do find myself listening more and more to his new stuff since i've

grown bored with his old for now. in a year it will all change again and i'll love

his old stuff like never before. that's the beauty of someone having 700 songs

out there.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The "Prince is over and done" thread from last weel must still be on page 1 that we already get the one for this week... Oh, wait! It's monday, that's why!

I'm sorry hw3004, but we've had these threads weekly for YEARS and it's more boring than anything Prince recorded these last few years, including Purple & Gold. If you have nothing new to say, please just, IDK, do something else, don't create a thread to say what 500 orgers have said before you.

+ I totally disagree, Prince's music is as great to me as it ever was! But that's only a matter of subjective, personnal taste. The point is not whether Prince's music is good or not, it's to stop polluting this forum with new versions of the same thread every week rolleyes

jesus.

Actually in a lot of ways many people say that.

.

I know a guy in his late 40s who in his younger years was over weight and didn't have a lot of things together. He's now lost weight, working out, in the best shape of his life, looking good, life is really good and he's doing things he never did in his 20s

.

I really think it depends on the person and situation(s) and situations and people they open to.

Woops!

I was trying to be a bit ironic and humourous after reading Bart van H's comments on the 3rd Eye TV thread but it seems not to have came accross very well! Admitedly it probably didn't help that I messed up on the initial posting and omitted the punchline....

This was never intended to be a thread about Prince, per se.

I can guarantee you Prince will say this if asked.

and/or if he recognised age as a 'thing'.

nod There are people who were focused on their studies, career, and now have time to enjoy. People who were students, paying debts, and now have financial freedom that they did not have in their 20's, 30's *balling outta control*, lol. I know someone who married too young. Now they are no longer married, kids are grown, & they're traveling the world. True, depends on the individual.

I wouldn't do my 20s again for all the tea in China. I'm a lot more creative now than I was at that age - and my life is plenty exciting.
