Hypothetical Question: If Prince was a hologram...

Note: I do not mean for this topic to sound offensive or morbid to anyone. I honestly think this is a very interesting thing to ask and am curious as to what your responses will be.

If Prince died and came back to perform as a hologram (a la Tupac at last years' Coachella), would he come back as he is today or would you like to see him perform from a different era and if so, which one(s)? (ie: 1999/Purple Rain Prince, Diamonds and Pearls Prince, etc.)

in the 1985 Rolling Stone interview Prince said it would be cool if he could materialize in people's houses to preform. Seems something like that is not too far off now.

Does it bother you when people say you're going back in time with 'Around the World in a Day'?

No. What they say is that the Beatles are the influence. The influence wasn't the Beatles. They were great for what they did, but I don't know how that would hang today. The cover art came about because I thought people were tired of looking at me. Who wants another picture of him? I would only want so many pictures of my woman, then I would want the real thing. What would be a little more happening than just another picture [laughs] would be if there was some way I could materialize in people's cribs when they play the record.

Me personally, I think if the idea was entertained, it'd be really cool to see a show where it was vintage Prince from 1981-1984 performing songs from those respective albums, then the lights go down, and '91 Prince came out singing Daddy Pop and other songs from Diamonds And Pearls and before. I was far too young to experience these wonderful eras live so that would be something in itself to see for me.

FragileUndertow, I guess the setlist could be anything you wanted it to be pertaining to the time period you'd like to see it in.

OnlyNDaUsa, thanks for sharing that. I can't believe he said that back in 1985! It really does show he was way ahead of his time.

The hologram thing concerning Tupac, is a way for some people to still make money out of the man; if it's profitable to his family and offsrping..

I do believe that otherwise, it's disrespectul and a shame towards tupac; but people in the music, movie businesses don't have any morality...

where does all the money go after death? definetely not making the gone one coming back.

So so sad to make money out of someone who is gone, Pathetic

ganesh, while I won't debate you about the morality of it (because I wholeheartedly agree with you), I think it makes for an interesting conversation because we do possess the technology to accomplish these kinds of things today and wondered what everyone else's thoughts or opinions may be. True, a hologram isn't going to make the deceased come back to life, but wouldn't it be cool to see a 1987 Prince do the Electric Slide into the splits on a stage right in front of you, just like he did in "Sign "O" The Times"? Hell, I don't even think he does the splits anymore, and for someone who wasn't even born when that actually took place, that in itself would be really nice to see.

I do appreciate the technology of making holograms, i do appreciate when I see a pictured, an imagination turning into fictive reality as an hologram, unrealistic image being quite real;( as what is real, what I see? another discussion, what is reality?)

I can't absolutely can't think of afterwards.. about Prince, he's here he's Present, his life still is..

Although, I do understand perfectly what you mean; My mind is closed to some discussion, i suppose, do you get my point? wink

Can't say I agree. Wouldn't any musician want their music to be played and their image to be remembered for a long time after they're gone? Also celebrities/artists whatever you wanna call them are practically brands. Why shouldn't their estates or heirs make money off those brands even after death? There's nothing terribly immoral about the idea itself if you ask me. And if done right and with respect, it could be a great way to celebrate their legacy. I don't think Tupac's was done quite properly though. But at the end of the day hologram isn't really all that different from 2d screen except it just happens to be more advanced technology, that's how I look at it.

See I like this type of thing here

Oh id pay up to 100 dollars plus to see him if they could materialize him in his sign o' the times form or from that era. His music moves me just from listening to him on my ipod so if i were with 20,000 people with a prince hologram and a live band im pretty sure its gonna be awesome and worth the money.

From Guitar World interview in 1998:

GW: With digital editing, it is now possible to create a situation where you could jam with any artist from the past. Would you ever consider doing something like that?

0{+> : Certainly not. That's the most demonic thing imaginable. Everything is as it is, and it should be. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing... it really is demonic. And I am not a demon. Also, what they did with that Beatles song ["Free As a Bird"], manipulating John Lennon's voice to have him singing from across the grave... that'll never happen to me. To prevent that kind of thing from happening is another reason why I want artistic control.

Or, instead of a hologram, what if Prince came back from the dead in the form of an Instagram? Or even scarier, as a LarryGraham?

Ok, for the family offspring, of course, the legacy an artist leaves after is quite normal and if the heirs can take advantage why not, I agree

I don't agree concerning those who continually use the image, "the brand" of someone who hasn't even got families, such as Marylin Monroe, James Dean, to name some who didn't leave children of their own..

I can't listen to someone who's gone and still watch images of the person and reminding of the past

What's past is past and over.

I dislike the fact that some people as Nathalie Cole sings "with" her father after... sad nuts

To me, it doesn't make sense.

I am not keen on speaking about Prince after, i'd rather talk about the present time.
