Cool, can't wait till it comes in the mail. I know Per Nilsen is famous around the org and looked highly upon, so I guess he writes well and goes into a lot of detail?

I hope it has a lot of content from the 1999 era excited

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

I read it when it came out and am reading it again. Very good. I just don't like

when Per Nilsen tries to be a critic, which he does on almost every song. His facts

are right on, but his opinions of which songs are good and which are bad, I don't

really care for.

(I read it when the paperback came out)

Per Nilsen's book DMSR is all about his first 10 years in detail, that is up to Lovesexy.

Not only music, but his relationships with Andre Cymone, his parents, where he lived, etc.

Detailed info about the band members and what they thought and did on each album and tour.

I've not seen one error, but there may be some. Just get it and read it, you'll be blown away

by his massive amount of work for example, he did the first Time album in 2 weeks. Tells you

how his first name for Vanity was Vagina. Talks all about why he let Wendy, Lisa and Bobby go.

Very good read. Get it if you can, you won't be disappointed.

Definitely worth the price, and becomes very interesting once Parade and Under The Cherry Moon is out of the way ie. late 1986 there on, including everything leading up to the Black Album and eventually Lovesexy. IMO one of the most fascinating eras of any artist anywhere, anytime.

one day a baby was born that his father named after the family dog. the baby grew up and became a huge star in the 80s, and then went a bit power crazy and lost all his fans except for six, who were named the vanity 6, and he proceeded to sue those fans, who then turned to michael jackson fans, and then michael jackson died and the fans got confused, and the story ended

and that's basically it

Not that I don't care for the other info, but how much is dedicated to the 1999 era? How many pages? I also read that it is illustrated a little. I really was surprised about that, I never thought that this book would be illustrated. I know it probably isn't illustrated too much though, it isn't important to me in this type of book.

dont forget to look at the market place and look at my thread about wax poetics prince special! Issue 50 please! Really really want this and have been teary today cuz my hopes have been pulled up and let down TWICE!!!!!! by people who orgnote me saying they could sell it then back down cry

Sorry mods if that is against the rules but at this point, I really don't care...been too depressed recently and those two situations really made it worse. Been too teary and upset to really care if I get in trouble... sad

Still the best biog. There's been some decent competition in recent years, but without a doubt they have all used Per Nilsen and Uptown's work as reference.

Just checking Amazon, the DMSR I have is $38 and an older version is $14. Anyone

know the difference? The $38 dollar one has about 70 more pages but I don't know

of the font, etc. I bet Noveaux knows.

Turns out I bout the 2nd edition for $38 on ebay (thank god because I didn't know it had 70 more pages biggrin ). How many pages does the book have overall? I don't want to be disappointed to find out it just has 100 pages or something...

Uptown was a long-running fanzine, Nilsen was one of the main contributors. Besides the well-researched fanzine they released a string of highly-regarded reference books ('chronologies' rather than biographies) including 'The Vault' which was the last one from 2004-ish. There are still members around who were part of the Uptown team.
