The New BOWIE album is not an evarage album, it's class.

It's excellent.

Still waiting for something like that from Prince.... I mean with the same intensity and with the same will to explore. Sometimes I think Prince should rely on a good producer.... just to try a different approach.

Anyway, I love Prince.... let's see if in 10 years he will be able to shock the world as Bowie did with this album.

Love.

Two entirely different artists with different life experiences. Just cause somebody finds an album a decent listen doesn't mean Prince has to follow that blueprint. it's just plain stupid to even suggest so. Why people don't see that beggars belief.

Y'know...Neil Diamond had a great album in 2005 (12 Songs). Prince should do one like that.

i love the new bowie album and i think it's a very good disc which i'll enjoy a lot,

even in the years to come (the kind of staying power that most of prince's new

albums don't have anymore, apart from some killer tracks here and there).

however, it took bowie 10 years to release another album (i'm pretty sure he did

not spend 10 years on making the album, come on people, he did the album in a

few years, perhaps).

if i'd cherry pick from everything prince released in the last 10 years i'd be able

to compile an album that -at least for my listening pleasure- would beat anyone

else out there.

all in all, i'd rather have 10 prince albums in a span of 10 years and if i'd have a

need, for whatever reason, to compile a 12 songs amazing album out of those it

would be possible and i'd still have about 90 more tracks left, most of which i'm

quite happy with and enjoy from time to time.

falloff at the |number 1| argument -from either side.

you know that the minute you say that, people are gonna go "number 1 don't mean shit these days"

it don't mean shit, however, until their own favorite artist has a number 1 album lol

bowie did well. great album, good marketing, nice vids, etc etc etc.

let's hope prince copies some of his marketing and promotion methods. musically, prince is and will

always be in his own world. sometimes it works out brilliantly, sometimes it's a bit so-so. whatever.

Well, the fact is, The Next Day is #1 in 40+ countries, both in CD form and on iTunes right now!!! When was the last time Prince had a # 1 album in 40+ countries in any form, physically and/or digitally???? I cant think of any new project he has brought out that has done that and he didnt even disappear for 10 years!! Maybe thats what Prince should do, disappear for about 10 years then come back in the way Bowie has, no fanfare, no interviews or promotions, no press conferences!! I am tired of Prince doing press conferences cos his ego still makes him beleive hes the greatest musician alive!! Its not the 80s/90s now Prince!!!rolleyes rolleyes

Well, you got me with "in 40+ countries", but if I remember correctly, Prince has been number one twice within the ten years that Bowie as be AWOL: Musicology (2004) and 3121 (2006)...so there! Now, maybe Bowie should pay attention to Prince, which is an equally stupid statement as is your statement. How about just giving Bowie his props and checking your misguided bitterness toward Prince at the door.

Yeah, but his newspaper releases didnt get anywhere, and I havent a clue how on Gods green earth did both Musicology and 3121 get to #1!! shocked shocked I cant even remember the tracklisting for one thing on either of them, let alone lyrics or anything!! So, that alone shows how memorable they were to me!!

I'm always amazed that when people make a point that they think trumps everything, then when you show them how myopic, subjective, or foolish their point is, they try to change the subject. One of the cornerstone aspects to your point is that Prince should pay attention to Bowie because of his number one album, CD, iTunes download, or whatever the hell it is. My response was merely to show how flawed your point is because Prince has had twice as many number one CDs as Bowie has had in the past ten years. If you notice, I didn't say anything about the quality of Bowie's CD or Prince's CD. (By the way I love Musicology and really like 3121 and have yet to listen to the full Bowie work.) So, all this other "I can't remember the songs from the albums" or "they are not memorable to me" or "I don't know where they went number one" is just a red herring to hide the fact that your premise is flawed and that you got your face cracked because of your bs logic. Dude, like I said, it would be better if you just praise Bowie for his success and leave your misguided bitterness for Prince door. Rather than shinning a light on Bowie, you are just creating chaos with your bitterness. As someone else posted, take this conversation to the appropriate forum and enjoy Bowie over there. Take care playa.

Prince should listen and stop trying to be 20.

You waited 10 years and all Bowie does is a average album.

I will stick with Prince, not all he puts out is perfect, but there has been alot of good stuff in the last 10 years.

Maybe Bowie should take notice.

have u herd the album i think it's a classic. Unlike the shit prince is producing at the mo. sorry 2 say prince should pay attention or he will b come a has been.

Also, I wonder how many of those 3 million buyers are still playing Planet Earth and/or 20TEN even now?? Or are they using the CDs as coffee mug coasters or hung up in trees to ward off birds from their gardens or even sent with other stuff down to charity shops or the local landfills or even thrown away???

I could never do that in a million years with The Next Day!! Its too much of a precious item for me to do that!!

But regular buyers of that paper DID NOT ASK for this prince CD. A lot of them didn't care about it at all, I'm sure. Some of them went in the trash, and lots were sold on ebay, amazon,etc...

You can't compare a free giveaway with actual sales figures of an album. Without proper promotion from a record company AND prince the album wouldn't have sold one million in the UK, not even close. Prince is lazy these days.

The Mail sold 300,000 extra copies that day, which would have been enough for a number 1 if it wasn't ineligible. Not that it matters as I tried to say with my Nicki Minaj example. Number one means nothing about quality.

----- He does not have a major record deal. His new music is not on iTunes. He will not have a number1 record until he plays ball. Why people persist in comparing in to major artist who are on major labels is mindbogling. It is not his ego he showed up at Grammies to give an award and was the talk of town the next day and if he went on us tour tommorow the tickets would be gone in minute.

I'm getting really tired of this Bowie to Prince comparision. Its Apples to Oranges. I really like "Diamond Dogs","Scary Monsters", "Lets Dance" and parts of "Heathan"(well "Everyone says Hi"). His whole discography can be kinda hit or miss similar to Prince's late 90's to current work. This Bowie album is really like a swan song to his whole carrier. I'm listening to it now but it's just kinda there. And thats okay. It's cool to him see him come out with an album after a decade. I think if Prince should listen to anything, it's what he's really done in the past and why that worked. What happened to the guy that did the funk organic workout of "What Time Is It" album and the crazy way ahead of it's time drum programming on the "Vanity 6" record and then totally flipping it on "1999"(where's the man that was laying down one of his funkiest and best basslines in "Lady Cab Driver") . And Thats just one year of commercial output. The playfulness found on "What time Is it" & "Vanity 6" is sadly missing from his current songs. I think Prince is really at his best when he's playful and energetic with his songs and not scientifically trying to figure out how to engineer a hit. The 85 to 86 work is so good because he experimented with a lot of different styles and approaches to his songs and wasn't trying to hit home runs with every song. But to me, if Prince was to listen to an album by a major selling and legendary group that's been M.I.A. . Its really Van Halen's "A Different Kind Of Truth". They really looked at what made them successful, revamped unreleased tracks that predate their first album and complemented it with newer material that fit and was 100% Van Halen. But Van Halen at their current age. There was a thread comparing Sting to Prince(which I don't think is totally balanced) but with The Police and Sting being my second favorite band after Prince. The only thing I can say is that Sting has alot more growth and maturity in regards to his life experience. He wrote an album about the loss of his parents, being married, seperation, having children and also world political issues. Prince continues to duck writing about reality and focusing on the same fantasy lifestyle he's been living for a long time. I found Prince's quest for global sport fucking on the "Planet Earth" album more genuine than a track like "Planet Earth". He writes like a 20 year old whos never grown up but simply suspended in time. Prince could never write an album like "Synchronicity" and Sting could never write "Sign O the Times".

Why is that Prince refuses to repeat musical styles that have been successful to him in the past but continues to repeat musical styles that just don't go anywhere(The James Brown retreads like "Turn Me Loose", "The Work", "Feel Better").

Peace

Big Chick
