Which Multitracks would you wanna explore?

So in my eyes Prince is a master of making diffrent elements fit together and has put togther but ver minamlist and dense recordings.

My question is which one of his songs/project/album would you most want to sit at the desk and flick through the tracks and play with the faders of

Myself I'd like to either go through The Gett Off - Maxi or The Exodus album

Shit, wouldn't that be a treat.

ALL of em!

If I had to pick three: For You, ATWIAD, Lovesexy. If it had to be one: Lovesexy. I still wanna hear that remix.

Yeah, "Lovesexy" would be nice.

"Purple Rain" could be interesting, because you could explore what the balance of the live elements and the overdubs in the final mixes really are.

In general, I don't find that Prince's best productions really rely on a lot of parts playing at the same time. I was listening to "Newpower Soul" the other day and thinking one of the reasons why it's one of his worst albums is that the multitracking of instruments used on the record seem to create fairly random harmonies. The end result is messy and sort of awkward to listen to.

Probably "1999". I remember listening to that cassette through headphones and just getting blown away.

That was the day I went from liking some of what he'd done to being an absolute fan.

I'd like to hear the original Lovesexy that Eric Leeds described. I imagine it is much more raw and unpolished. I wonder what it must have sounded like, kind of like The Ball before it became Eye No etc.

One of the music snobs podcast members said something about an early version that features a latin breakdown. If its circulating, I wanna hear it.

The Gold Experience.

That would be an absolute dream come true. To me, that album is the essence of modern production.

two come to mind the 1st is "Crystal ball" and the second is "In This Bed Screem". crystal ball has so much going on musically. and "in this bed i screem" has so much going on vocally and production wise. would love to seperate each track on these songs, and listen to them indivisualy.

"Adore" popped in my mind first, just from a vocal standpoint.

"Joy in Repetition" would also be high on my list. I'd love to isolate those jazzy guitar licks that accent the song.

Love 2 the 9's would be cool too. If for no other reason, to fade out the rap parts. That song is so great otherwise.

Loving these responses

I've just had another one and that's the prince album

The poduction and vocal layers are just so dense it would be great to hear the songs underneath

Also (although I confess I don't actually mind him as much as others) you could mute Tony M

But the thing I'd most love to do is deconstruct the vocals at the end of The Sacarifice Of Victor the bit that goes

"and I'm gonna keep on walking down this road untill I reach my destination yeah (we sacarifice) that's when my name will be Victor Amen"

I know it's never going to happen but that would just be a total joy

Saviour: The guitar track
Had U: The heaving isn't on a vocal track. I think. I think he's playing and crying.

Adore, definitely.

Oh god yes the cowbell, and just a push down on the faders of the synths

I have to confess I don't mind Tony M I love the Max and I don't think it would be any better without his addition.

I would love and I mean absolutely love to go track by track through My Name Is Prince and I Wanna Melt With U, I bet there's loads to explore
