Minneapolis St. Paul Fashion Week Graced By Prince!

Minneapolis St. Paul Fashion Week Graced by Prince!
Get out! Prince. The Purple One. The Artist. Sexy MF. Our Minnesota treasure. He did his hometown another solid—one even more unexpected than his recent impromptu concerts at the Dakota. Prince attended The Shows on Friday night, part of Minneapolis St. Paul Fashion Week. MNfashion Director Tara Murphy confirmed His Presence (he’d probably use some symbols or numbers in there, wouldn’t he?), although details, of course, were few. In a Facebook post to her friends, Murphy described “CIA-like meetings” all day to ensure Prince would have a private evening at Aria at the Jeune Lune. With a few hundred other people. But of course, it’s Prince. And he’s known for dropping in and slipping out in ghost-like (superhero?) fashion.
The local designers who showed collections last night, and most of the fabulously dressed crowd in attendance (other than St. Paul Pioneer Press fashion writer Nancy Ngo who broke the news via Twitter), had no clue He was in their midst. When I asked designer Christopher Straub, whose candy-coated collection closed The Shows, how it felt to know Prince was watching. “Do we even know if he saw my show,” Straub, the Project Runway alum, asked. “It would be nice if he wanted to buy the whole collection!”
Murphy says Prince arrived before the first designer, and left after the last. She was summonsed to speak to Prince at the end of the evening—and he even removed his glasses. That’s all she can say, and you know, it’s probably better that way. Source

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Because it's not New York or Paris? How do we know what the quality of the fashions are without seeing them? They could be very daring and creative for all we know. Some of the best theatre in the world has been produced in Minneapolis, and of course music. I'd like to see something before I judge it. I'm sure Minneapolis isn't going to usurp the fashion capitals of the world anytime soon, but there could be credible work being created regardless.

razz Kill that noise, Opie Cunningham. Cuz while I think you're lil' soliloquy is cute, I don't need to actually EAT a shit sandwich before I can tell you it's wrong and there is absolutely nothing appetizing about it to me.

That said, I give 'em bold points like a mu'fucka. I mean, fashion WEEK?! C'mon son. I'm sure MNFashion Day would've sufficed just fine. smile

Nah, I'm just fucking with you. I'm sure there were some elegant, innovative and forward designs jumpin' off. But you gotta admit, the notion of the Twin Cities (it usually takes just one city) as some sort of fashion hub is comedy that writes itself. lol

In any case, I think both are indicative of the fashion "sense" one would associate with MN.

Apologies to any fellow orgers from the region for my stereotypical assumptions. I just don't see it.

What city are you from? Whenever your hometown squirts out someone as cool and with as much style a Prince (or even Morris Day) , get back to those of us living in the fashion hub known as bumfuck USA aka the Twin Cities.

Reading this thread, I'm conflicted. lol

On the one hand, I feel somewhat offended by the snobbery and stereotyping about Minnesota/Mpls, but on the other hand, I've lived here my entire life (I'm in my 40s) and have firsthand understanding about the oftentimes pathetic attempt Minneapolis makes to be, or at least portray itself, as 'cutting edge' and a sophisticated city in league with the heavyhitters like LA or New York. Every day I see what truly passes for "fashion" around here, and yeah, it is funny. lol

There's a local magazine called L'etoile ( love the pretension!) that describes itself as the following (from its website): "Since debuting as a print publication in 2004, l’étoile magazine has been providing a witty and irreverent guide to the Twin Cities, featuring online coverage of the best art, fashion, music and performing arts that the area has to offer. Each Thursday, we publish a new online edition of the Weekend What’s What, brimming with some of the best hip, under-the-radar local events occurring over the weekend. We also produces feature stories, weekly columns spanning music, film, art, fashion and underground culture, Q&As with local creatives, reviews of events and businesses, photo editorials and more."

The following link goes directly to some coverage of the recent "Fashion Week": http://www.letoilemagazin...-showcase/ if anyone is interested in getting a glimpse into local Mpls fashion. smile

I think it's cool Prince showed support of his hometown by attending that event, but I can't help but get why some might find the idea of Minneapolis, MN having a fashion week to be amusing.

One last thing -- I'm wondering if Prince went to this show because Jahna Peloquin, the editor-in-chief of L'etoile, was part of the video shoot at Paisley Park a few weeks ago. She'd tweeted about dancing in that video with a bunch of her friends.

pretty cool.

Now what's funny is that when I saw "Minneapolis St. Paul Fashion ... Prince" I immediately thought of Prince & the Revolution in the 1980s. I'm expecting to see lots of make-up and pirate shirts. lol My mind is so silly.

It's funny because MN is not particularly a place one finds synonymous with FASHION! WTF is so hard to grasp about that? And I'm not sure what you consider MAJOR, but http://en.m.wikipedia.org...#section_1 hmmm

falloff

That shit you wrote fails on at least a couple levels..

A. I'm from Los Angeles. Plenty of style there, in the THIRD most fashionable city. At least compared to where ever the hell MN lands (http://www.bundle.com/article/most-and-least-fashionable-cities-america/).

PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. lol

2. If your greatest hope is on Prince's and/or Morris E. Day's status and/or influence as fashion icons, you ain't got NO hope. lol
