1. I think he means The Continental

2. I think he is posting drunk or high.

Prince doesnt use screw in a sexual way in the song.

The way he delivers the word is suggestive, but the song itself indicates he's just talking about how he and the woman fit together as if they were made for each other... as a pea to a pod or a screwdriver to the head of a screw.

I love that everyone acts like the song is so nasty but the lyrics on their face don't really support that. But I love the innuendo and of course it's a double entendre so yeah he wants you to think sex, but he's not overtly saying it.

P.S. I think he could get anyway with Let's PRetend We're Married but I'm in a small pool of people who don't see vulgarity and profanity as immature, inappropriate or bearing an age-related expiration date.

Prince hasn't matured or evolved, he's just more religiously restrained. I'm sure I've heard him say some explicit sexual things in the last 10 years, but we've talked about them in other threads and I don't feel like regurgitating.

Ok if its not used sexually then why couldn't he have chosen another metaphor? He knows exactly what he's doing! He wanted an IN YOUR FACE, MAKE U THINK TWICE CHORUS AND TITLE, but I C what U're saying. The SONG isn't nasty, no not at all, but the chorus? Some people might say otherwise. Yep in the past he's written way worse, maybe he just needed to get this one out of his system. "YOU'RE MY SCREW." Sounds waaaaay sexual. IDK maybe it depends on the person listening 2 the song

Uhhh... I'd like 2 C how that plays out.... hmm....

I don't care if he's dirty or not but this idea that older folks shouldn't be into sex is ridiculous. I don't want to see him wearing what he wore in 1980, or humping the stage or anything, that would be weird. But, it's not weird or wrong for someone in their 50s to be sexual, or even nasty if it's called for.

"Cotenetal, the feeling u get when u want to have coitus with Raphael Nadal", Prince's long awaited follow up to Lovesexy wherein he sings completely in the Daisy Duck older sister of Camille voice.
"So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Uhhhh...where did I say that older folks shouldn't be into sex? I'm only a couple years younger than Prince - and trust me, I don't don't believe that, at all.

If you don't think singing, "I sincerely wanna fuck the taste out of your mouth" is on a par with humping the stage, well...you'll eventually get the point you're completely missing right now.

You know Prince.... always trying to be provocative and yet contrary. razz But yeah, he knew people would react to "screw" on the surface and I'm sure he was attracted to that double entendre.

He's depending on people interjecting their own connotations even if he doesn't give them support for it in the song. I think the mislead created by the seeming innocence of the lyrics mixed with the vernacular connotation of "screw" makes the song very fun.

You say "past a certain age smut mouth isn't sexy", I say, "hogwash". This argument was first presented around Rainbow Children. I am now about the age he was when he did Rainbow, and I don't buy it. If he was geriatric (sp?) or if he was your grandpa, I'd get it. He's neither. That man has more energy than me and is still sexier to women than I ever was or ever will be. He's surrounded by all these sexy young girls. Why wouldn't he still be sexual? And, since he's a musician known for music that is sexually thematic, why would he not continue that?

That line from Let's Pretend We're Married is no where near the same as humping a stage. Not. Even. Close.

Again, you are engaging in a straw man fallacy. (Look it up.) I didn't say he couldn't be sexual. Smut mouth isn't the same thing as garden-variety sexy, it's vulgar and juvenile. Is that what you're arguing in favor of - vulgar and juvenile? If not, quit trying to twist my words, please.

I'm not trying to twist your words, perhaps we're not communicating well.

With all due respect, I disagree that sexual language (including the word fuck) is vulgar or juvenile. Nor am I arguing in favor of using those words. I don't care if he does or does not.

My point is that I don't agree that his age is a factor. I don't think it should prevent him from being sexual OR from using language such as "I want to fuck the taste out of your mouth." If he's feeling that, sing that.

Maybe we simply disagree on the language itself. I don't believe in "bad" words & "good" words and all that nonsense. I don't believe that so called "bad" language is only appropriate for a certain age group. And, lastly, I don't agree that his age should prevent him from singing about sex or using language that you might find vulgar. If the song, and his muse, call for it, bring it on. If they don't, leave it. I just want him to be real to himself...

Talk about obtuse. If anyone is having difficulty understanding it is you. I have clearly laid out my position and even simplified it further since you don't seem to be getting my point.

The Dialouge between djThunderfunk & Genesia, was an interested read more so than the title of this thread! lol

It brought an interesting link between what is considered vulgar words, and such! smile Good point to the both of you! :

Now, back to the OP..I mentioned this a while ago, but it seems necessary to mention it again. As far as Prince writing 'Dirty' lyrics, one need to only look up his recent stuff on 'Elixir' recent as in his last physical copy CD before '20Ten' He wrote everything for Bria, and while he wasn't singing all of it, he did made it clear, that "With his pen, ink and tongue..UP and down..round and round."

Some of the same phrases he used on the song "Come". Prince is not going to be in your face directly such as "Let's Pretend We're Married"...He uses a "Little Red Corvette" Approach. We call it innuendo. He has been using that sort of metaphorical language a lot with his music, now it's one of his most common elements to use.

It's one of the things, I love about Prince. When used well, it backs his most famous line "Whatever you think is true". Because there is not a foundation behind what he really means. Just a bunch of implications that are too dense to really describe meaning to. He uses innuendo in 'Boyfriend' "...With the deepest mark of magic, my names upon your walls."

We can look at that in many ways; he could mean it in many ways. BUT, since my mind is kind of 'suggestive' I'm going to look at it, in the same context I look at 'Lovesexy' the song. When he says "You want to me write my name upon your walls/ you want me to swivel in your loveseat" All of these phrases are metaphorical, but it is very likely he means something sexual. BUT considering Prince uses the sexual, profane, and Spiritual a lot..it could mean all of these things, or none of these things.

If you followed his history long enough, it's just easier to determine..LIKELY he is speaking about something sexual, that is positioned to appear as something nice; that will likely pass over a lot people heads. It's like optical illusion, you might not get it the first time, or the first couple of times..BUT out of no where..you might see it another way. AND THEN BAM! What a dirty mind you have, or maybe you read too far into it?

AHH! I'm talking to much! Never mind!

It's Button Therapy, Baby!
