Why do you think it was ashame?
You have to remember that it was something cool at the time to get a new song (that wasn't included on an album) every few months. It was fun anticipating the release of a single at the time. Remember too that the good old LP held about 50 minutes of music as opposed to the CD's 75. There's far fewer b-sides from the 90s, the CD age, and that just may be because the albums were longer, so there were fewer leftovers.

A shame that more people don't know these gems. I remember Haley's book arguing that "...Hair" was better than anything on the ATWIAD album, and I almost want to agree with him. Mind you Iliked that album and several songs I love, but...yeah.
Then again, I do agree about his quality of B-sides. In that regard, Prince I would compare to the Beatles. | |

He never really did 'real' long versions for I Wish U Heaven,
not one for Escape or Glam Slam
I guess the album version of Alpabet St was the full version

Interesting. If a longer version exists, i usually find half a song unacceptable. Was listening to some singles of his earlier and was wondering WTF he was thinking. Some of his best songs butchered beyond belief. The only single edit i dig is Alphabet Street. |
