Albums with the best drum sound

Drum machine excluded,so which Prince album have the best drum sound in terms of production.Or which album have drums that suit your ears the best? Prince did quite a few albums with live drums but for me album with the best drum sound goes to The Rainbow Children.the drums sound so crisp and natural like there's no compresion on them.

Madhouse 8. I put this on just for a ride on the funky jazzy kinetic drums. The drums just sound and feel good. Like good sex. Actually all of the instruments sound fantastic, all of them the mixed just right. 8 is one of my all time favorite Prince albums for the drums alone, but really all of the instrumentation, including the awesome Eric Leeds. I know it's been said it's all Prince on the drums on this, but I still say Sheila is in there somewhere on this one. 16 is good too, but not as vibrant as 8

The Undertaker.

Very raw and simple, with a good ambience mic; then pan the toms a bit, put Michael B in front of the kit and - voilà! - perfect drum sound.

As much as I liked TRC drums, I feel that the NEWS drums are a lot clearer in comparison.
Maybe because there's only 4 or 5 instruments playing at one time and no vocals, everything feels a lot less compressed and more REAL.
cool

I think The Gold Experience. Particularly tracks like "Shhh", "Endorphinmachine" and "Eye Hate U" etc. The drums are really tasty on that album. The drums on Rainbow Children seem a bit more dampened, which also sounds really nice on that album.

Yeah, it'd have to be TRC, I suppose. The instrumental albums that followed it have a bit too sleek, reverberated sound to my taste. TGE sounds very powerful due to the drums and I like Michael Bland's style, but TRC is still superior in that regard to me.

I also like how the drums sound on his early 80s albums. Totally different from the high-end studio stuff though.

I always liked Michael Bland's playing. Songs like Daddy Pop are a cacophony of drum sounds that still transport me. However, I'm not sure anything beats the unique sound of Irresistable Bitch. Never heard anything like that (except for Cloreen Bacon Skin, of course).

i really like the drumsounds on prince´s second cd "prince".

and the lotus flower.

lovesymbol has also great drums, way better than D&P and the gold experience.

the drums on shhh may be great, but they sound not good, because of the bad production.

TRC is also not my favourite, i dont like the muffled sound of the snare...

Im also not a big fan of J.B. ... sometimes less is more

the intro at the beginning and in the middle is good, but i always have to turn down the volume because its sounds so bad, almost destoyed. for my liking to many highs, middles " einfach übersteuert"...

compare the studioversion with the live version which was in the beautiful experience....

Almost th same intro, but the sound is miles better in the liveversion. the same goes for the vocals...weak performance on the record.

well i dont like jb.

I prefer michael b.
