Auto Writing

I am reading a book on Automatic Writing and was curious if any1 knows if Prince
has evey mentioned using this process in his creative happenings?

I understand a lot of the "greats" have used this type of creative connection with music, speeches, drawings etc.

Has any1 out there used this process them self?

Could you give us a wee precis as to what 'auto-writing' entails, are there any songs based on this that would suggest 'auto-writing'. Sounds interesting...

Auto Writing 'occurs either by the writers subconscious or by external spirits operating through the writer.' In one writer's description..."sometimes suddenly being owned by something else"

Sounds like a powerful creative force that I'd guess Prince has been in touch quite a few times guitar He has instant access to a way to translate this sudden, creative spark with making music and writing music headbang

If you're looking for a scientific answer, your question would have to sound more like this:

"Has Prince ever been inspired?"

I'd say yes, he has.

Prince, I am not sure but I read the gloved one used auto writing 4 most of the thriller and Bad albums.

Sum view auto writing as demonic others as a form a healing from traumatic issues u have repressed. If u want 2 read up on the subject I am reading Automatic Writing by Anita M. Muhl. The book claims that all case subjects are
real and all avenues to confirm authenticity have been confirmed.

Thanks 4 ur replies guys!

As there are no ways whatsoever to confirm the existence of an afterlife, god(s) or other lesser supernatural beings, (demonic or otherwise) that can't be explained by mental illness, piss-poor education or head trauma, the book can claim any number of things. It doesn't make any of them true. Creative people do a lot of hard work to acheive the masterful art they create. They deserve the credit, not some imaginary beings from an iron-age fairy tale.

@ steakfinger; when one has questions u search 4 answers and along the way u run into interesting truths, twists, lies etc., as a Creative myself I find creativity 2 b beauty AND the beast. I am grateful 2 have the gifts I do have and have nothing but respect 4 the gifts that others like us share.

Hasn't he hinted that this may have been at play in the writing of the Black Album? Hence his refusal to release once he realised it was 'evil'....

is it like being on autopilot, without properly focussing on what you're doing & not exherting much energy while doing it?

If so, I'd say he's been doing it for a while.

blah blah blah

I don't think prince has had an auto writing experience since the 80's. His songs are first of all .. pretty much cookie cutter in structure, verse chorus bridge solo etc.. second the lyrics are super overly intellectualized to the point where his words flow out like a hurried speech than anything thing that simply flowed thru him naturally .. this is also the reason his music has been so bad .. it does not come from the source .. it comes from his mind .. and his mind is not as talented as the source .. worse yet .. his mind gets in the way of the source and thinks it is improving the inspiration when it is really just putting prince stamp on it for ego sake instead of letting the song come out natural .. i was reading yesterday about how prince used to put everything in the form of a question .. and now he just acts like he knows all the answers .. worse yet .. all his answers are wrong .. but that is a different discussion .. the point is .. his adherance to some kind of firm belief or knowing has staled his output and clearly points to a lack of connection to the source .. a source which is chaotic as it encompasses everything .. not just prince now very narrow point of view .. prince mind is too closed to connect to inspiration anymore .. very sad

Oh, for crying out loud. Everybody knows he wrote his songs using a Ouija board. rolleyes

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I could see him having a crack at this around 1999 era, but nowadays I'd imagine he'd think it was "evil" or something.
