Prince to appear on Great Gatsby soundtrack

From Entertainment Weekly:

http://music-mix.ew.com/2...oundtrack/

Baz Luhrmann’s blinged-out retelling of The Great Gatsby was going to be this year’s big Christmas movie until it got bumped into next year. But that might be for the best — since it’s apparently given the filmmaker plenty of time to nail down some major crazy names for the soundtrack.

According to actress Adelaide Clemens, there will be contributions from both Lady Gaga and Prince. “They have some new music that’s going to be added to the film,” Clemens told Indiewire during press rounds for her forthcoming movie Silent Hill Revelation 3D. ”Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don’t think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that.”

Based on that quote, it’s unclear whether or not she meant Prince and Lady Gaga together, though that collaboration seems highly unlikely. But both have been in the studio lately; Gaga’s been hard at work on her next album, Artpop (due early next year), and Prince just unveiled a brand new single called “Rock and Roll Love Affair.” This would be Gaga’s first song done specifically for a soundtrack; Prince’s film history is legendary.

It’s no suprise that music will play a big role in The Great Gatsby. Luhrmann’s Romeo Juliet soundtrack holds up way better as a mixtape of mid-’90s alt (Radiohead, Garbage, Everclear) than a film, and Moulin Rouge! was all about flipping pop songs on their heads. Plus, we’ve already heard about how Jay-Z inspired the tone of the flick, and seen the trailer that prominently features both Jay and Kanye’s “No Church in the Wild” and Jack White’s cover of U2′s “Love Is Blindness.”

Wow. I hope Prince has read the book as it might broaden his limited horizons a bit. As for the director, I am not optimistic about the flick.

This.

Kinda cool that F. Scott Fitzgerald was from the other "Twin City" - St. Paul.

Does the search function on this site not work?

I actually searched this topic before I posted, and never came up with anything.

(and was this never on the homepage? Seems like news to me, and the homepage has some pretty old stuff on it!)
