Harper's Magazine Prince Article (12/2/12)

Anyone read this article? Found it on Harper's Magazine website this morning by accident (12/02/2012). I am not a subscriber and didn't feel like paying $17 for a subscription just to read it. Looked kinda interesting though.

Apologies if already posted. I searched but couldn't find any mention of it here.

It is worth picking up the magazine. Interesting that it is in Harper's and not the NYer, where Als is, or was, on staff. Maybe the New Yorker is still not ready.
Harper's is a different kind of snooty. I still like it.

Is not it "I AM your Conscience"?

i see lyrics all over the Internet with "Conscious"; however, whatever, listening to this since 1984 and i have been hearing "Conscience".

Yes it is. And the fact that it's on the cover of Harper's that way is quite a blunder.

What a windbag.

So he wants to crack one off to Prince, go do it - don't write a novel about it.

Horrible mistake in the title of the article. The content of the article is also a mistake. How did this get published? Really creepy and uncomfortable.

Yea seriously. That's one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever wasted time reading. Prince related or no.

I can't and won't even bring myself to read the article in its entirety because it does give me the creeps. Very Very Dark - Let's Blast It.

I am willing to bet that the title is not a typo but intentional.

Thanks for the work in scanning this, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to scan an entire article and load it up on the web. As somebody with a wife in the media, this is part of what's driving much of the media into more and more difficult financial times. It only seems fair to either use the magazine's website or dish out the $6 or whatever it is to buy a physical copy of the magazine.

Clearly the author has, or had, major feelings for Prince. Respectfully speaking from the perspective of a person with adequate comprehension skills, this article is full of some deep isht.

This sounds like something written in the old days of VIBE and Rolling Stone...

ASHMO

why did i read "colored" like 5 times before i got off the 1st page in an article printed in fucking 2012. its not the biggest deal but with the tone this ass clown has throughout this "article" it all comes off as contrived.

The middle bit where Prince actually spoke was the only worthwhile part in my opinion. After "Dorothy Parker Part II", none of it made sense anymore.

I like the article. And no, the title is not an error. He uses the word colored' in the droll way that I still hear it used sometimes, though less often than i did before. I like the opening especially. He gets arty there in the end but why not?
