Hannah Ford Releases Rehearsal Clip of "I Like It There"

Hannah Ford (new drummer for Prince's NPG band) has released a rehearsal clip of "I Like It There", and it's very sloppy... possibly the most out of time clip I've ever heard from a Prince band. It's mostly her drumming that's at fault here, so it's a bit surprising that she released it.

It's on "Hannah Ford Fan Page"... check it out, and discuss.

She's a great drummer, but not here. Someone actually commented with, "tight groove"... this is anything but tight.

Just Sayin'...

It's now also reported on DrF's page...

The players sound out of sync.

Come ON, Prince. Release a new album. These amateur rehearsal clips do NOTHING for me.

Agreed.

I find it puzzling that Prince refuses to release an album, but lets this slop go.

You all know I'm very rarely critical of Prince, and I like his new single, but this is just a mess.

One has to wonder what they're rehearsing for. Maybe Prince is gonna play in MN again some day soon.

Really not into the chord inversions prince chooses to play in this version of the song. Feels very tasteless and blah.

I'm glad I have no idea what you are talking about, so can just enjoy it without worry about whether or not it's technically good. biggrin razz

Normally I'd go along with pointing out the original but this thread title is way better and gets to the point. The other thread was a complete riddle for a good while! biggrin

I don't really understand this. We used to pay HUGE money for poor sounding rehearsals on boots, and now we complain about them being out for FREE?

Not so many other artists (if any?) stream rehearsals, it's a pretty intimate thing to share and it's a nice way to be cool with hardcore fans. For once Prince isn't doing something that's alienating his fans community, I find it pretty pleasant.

And I don't expect a rehearsal to be as "clean" as a finished product. It is what it is: a rehearsal.

Thanks for the clip Hannah! I'll take anything I can get these days ....

I remember paying an arm and leg for bootlegs before I even knew what they sounded like...and all these clips we get free are cool. So thanks to Hannah/Andy Allo/ or anyone from the P camp who releases stuff.

Exactly. Too many "I know all there is about music" snobs on here. Hannah is "learning" new songs and is bound to mess up a bit before getting them down. She shared this on her FB page to satisfy the "Prince stalking" community who friends anyone within 1500 feet of Paisley Park for more than five minutes! Be grateful or be quiet.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

DAG. As I said, I'm rarely (if ever) critical of Prince's music, and I have diverse tastes. I'm not a snob of any kind... it's just that rhythm is the most important element of music to me, and that rehearsal clip is all over the place rhythmically.

I'm not dissing Hannah nor Prince at all, just stating the fact that it's off.

That's all...

Not bad. Not Great...just a nice listen. The drumming is the weak link. Nothing like Prince And The WITB.

I wasn't adressing you specifically but there's been too much "perfectionism" on here lately. Was there this much ado when Sheila E. strapped on a guitar during one of her performances(we know she wasn't playing the thing). People just need to relax and remember how to enjoy music and the feeling of hearing a boot or a rehearsal or a new track. Everyone is always spouting technical stuff now instead vibing and feeling.

I'm not saying it's super tight or anything, but the drums are not leveled out, and are not processed with compressor and limiter, thus making it not fit the "mix" as it would in a studio version. The dynamics, as well as rythm sounds less tight much because of that. The kick is very low. If the kick and the bass was louder in the mix, it woulda sound much tighter. You can clearly hear than some of the toms and the snare is very loud some places. If the tom toms steals the attention from the kick, it will change the groove totally. A trained ear however will be able to hear what it's suppose to sound like through the mix.

You´re the musician so you probably have your reasons why you dislike this rehearsal from a technical standpoint but, as a non-musician judging strictly with my ears and heart, I say I prefer this rehearsal over that boring new single any day. The single does absolutely nothing for me but I have always liked Prince´s raw and simple rehearsals.

I´d love to see some officially released rehearsals one day, or something like the Undertaker video release...just raw, spontaneous and simple, with just a minimum of band members.

And I don´t even like the song "I like it here", but this rehearsal is , in my opinion, very enjoyable.

But then again, I find the Billy´s Sunglasses rehearsal very enjoyable, too. lol

Thanks for the tip.

About the music: I'd have to listen.

How would she compare to Michael B?

The guitar performance is very average at best. With plenty of unusual mistakes here and there. The guitar tone is awful. Hannah is out of sync at several occasions.

As a musician myself it is quite unbearable.

And is that me or these A and D chords are not tuned properly.

eek
