Prince & The Revloution - Live video

As I'm sure some of you older P fans especially in the UK may agree with me, watching this video back in 85-86, was the first time we'd got the chance to see Prince live after he'd exploded onto the scene post Purple Rain.

I still watch this now and it makes me smile.

The "Wanna Lay Me?" line during the break in Delirious.

The talky bit in How Come U Don't Call Me. "Tell me darlin' does a man have an ass like mine?" lol

When he kicks his piano stool over again during Let's Pretend We're Married.

And who can forget the little fat kid dancing on the stage on Baby I'm A Star? (anyone know that kid by the way?, he must be like 30 now!!)

So let's take a moment to remember that video, and those performaces. Ok so some of them weren't as polished as the later shows and some of the lighting and sound on the recording leaves a lot to be desired, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for this one.

Anyone else wanna share?
Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

When live broadcasted in Europe I recorded this show back then on an uncommon video 2000 system (philips).
Later - when such obsolete machines cound not be bought anymore - the machine gave up on me.
There I was having this show on a videotape that I could not watch. I could have let it copied to a VHS tape, but the sound quality wasn't already that good on the video 2000 tape. It would become worse when copied, so I did not do it. Besides that I doubt someone still would have had one of those old machines to get it copied with.
For several years I have tried to get a hold on the commercially sold tape of the concert, but in every store I was told it could not be ordered anymore.
Recenty I found out it can be ordered again!
I ordered it and again and again I enjoy watching this concert. The first Prince concert I ever saw (though I was not phisically there).
One almost can't believe this was 18 years ago! It still gives me this special feeling.

One of the best versions of "Purple Rain" ever!! PLUS, "Irresistible Bitch/"Possessed" is FUNKAY!!! Also, always loved that little guitar solo at the end of 1999. As a matter of fact, the only thing I didn't like was the cheesy presentation of "When Doves Cry" (by using the mirror effect from the video) Small gripe though, great show. This DEFINITELY needs to be on DVD and since it is Prince at his commercial peak, probably stands a better chance than SOTT

I mentioned this in another thread but I'll do so here as well...
I think that Prince & The Revolution Live should be released on DVD, but as a supplement of a nice 2 disc special edition of Purple Rain. Think about it - the sales potential of this film on its own is pretty minimal - who, other than us, is going to buy a nearly 20 year old Prince concert on its own? I think, along with a nice picture and sound presentation and other extras, this would be a primo bonus feature as part of a WB re-release of Purple Rain on DVD. Since they have been revisiting some of their early DVD releases with nice 2-disc sets, Purple Rain seems like a prime candidate (wouldn't it be nice to FINALLY see a widescreen presentation of this on video?)

Just a thought...

Indeed, what the hell happened to that kid? I'm kind of gussing he's the "Little Dominic" on the credits at the end of the 'Revolution Live' video.

I recall seeing him making another appearance and doing the same kooky dance routine, again during 'Baby, I'm A Star' (he must have really liked that song!) at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, 26th February 1985. That was a cool performance. Anybody else seen this on video lately?

Which makes me wonder about who this "kid" really was, as we did not see him again after that.

Around the same time, Prince was doing a lot of unpublicised work for a number of charities dealing with handicapped kids. DAYS OF WILD reported that during the Purple Rain tour Prince organised food drives in some of the cities where he played. Food contributed by fans was collected in barrels at the concert gates and later distributed to needy families. Additionally, the Purple Rain tour served to raise $500,000 for Marva Collins' experimental Teacher Training Institue in Chicago. Unfortunately, the negative publicity generated by Prince's absence from 'We Are The World' incident tended to overshadow all the work he did for those disadvantaged kids.
