I think the concept of the Batman album is great, and Tim Burton did a great job on the movie,

but in my opinion it feels like it's to fabricated , just like Burton said, he had to fit those songs in the movie score. It just feels unnatural. They complement each other perfectly though...

Just like the album says, inspired by the Batman movie...

For what it's worth I had a friend at uni who found out I was a huge Prince fan and he told me Batman was his favourite film and Trust was his favourite song. The only thing he knew of Prince really was the Batman album - he loved the whole lot. I guess from his perspective it fit perfectly.

Have to say personally I don't feel the music is that out of place - it's over the top, like the Joker character. Partyman/1999 - not much difference if they used either, same with Trust/Baby I'm A Star really. If you feel one is incongruous the other probably would feel the same way.

I think the soundtrack is really good too. I don't think it's a dip in quality but it's the first Prince album to be in his 'comfort zone' and does kinda signal the beginning of the end of his creative peak (though he had subsequent peaks they were less innovative peaks I would argue).

That "Batdance" song sucked.

No,it didn't lol that song is edgy, adventurous and features a blazing guitar solo. It's one of Prince's best singles of the late 80s.

Agreed.

I agree with you SoulAlive..

Batdance is a great funk/pop track... the Jack Nicholson/ Kim Basinger dialogue is amazing, fits this song very well.

Shame this track wasn't used for the end credits in the movie.

&.. I love the Batdance music video, that is just fantastic, one of Prince's best videos.

If it's so great, how come Prince never performs it anymore? Answer: Because most people don't care about it and even Prince doesn't seem to care much for the song now, otherwise he'd be performing (since he performs whatever he wants).

Come on smile Faulty logic. You could say this about a number of songs. Prince not playing a great song doesn't negate it's greatness. If "Thieves in the Temple" is so great, why doesn't he perform it anymore? If "America" is so great, why doesn't he play it?

I suspect that "Batdance" is a very tricky song to play live...mostly because the actual song is a bunch of samples and loops. As far as I know, Prince only played it live consistently during the Nude Tour....even then it was an abbreviated version.

"New Power slide...."

Nobody mentioned how much the song The Future actually does fit the movie although not included in the film, and the outtake Dance Ith The Devil even more so. It shows that Prince can write dark moody music, fitting for a film like Batman.

the future was in the film.it was in the opening scene
