Was "Box O' Chocolate" compiled by Prince? Hi
I just wondered if the outtakes compilation that is known as Box O' Chocolates (booltleggers or fan-made title AFAIK) is from a tape that Prince compiled himself as such for someone, or if the tracklist was fanmade from various other tapes? I'd find it interesting to know wheither the flow of songs is the fruit of Prince's creativity or just a random accident like so many other bootlegs.
Of course I don't expect anyone here to tell me "oh yeah the tape was made by Prince and given to XXX who gave it to my friend XXX who gave me a copy back in '86", but I know that people who know where this tape comes from are members of this forum, so a "yes" or "no" will be enough: no need for the whole backstory
Please cut the crap if u in the mood for jokes, I"m sure many would like to know the real answer
And before some hysterion starts trippin', this thread does NOT imply that Prince ever leaked bootlegs himself: I am talking about tapes he made for friends, collaborators or WB executives for personnal use only.
So for the dummies out there IDK how to put it any other way but let me re4mulate: the question isn't whether Prince leaked these songs (he didn't) but whether this compilation is a copy of a compilation Prince made himself (such as 10,000 Wallpaper or Parade Demos for example) and gave to someone who eventually allowed it to leak or if it has been made by collectors using various first gen tapes of previously leaked material.
I think it's worth knowing, since in one case it's just a collection of songs and in another case it's a Prince-made configuration.
If you still don't understand the question please orgnote me before posting nonsense.
Thanks. [Edited 10/20/12 13:34pm] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

All of those songs have been circulating for over 20 years. The improved sound indicates that a fan put it together from previous releases. When ![]() ![]() ![]()

When, oh, when will people stop daydreaming regarding Prince outtakes?
Prince had NOTHING to do with this release, and if it is doing the rounds, it is thanks to fans who decided to release it. You can be sure that if it depended on Prince, all of this stuff would be happily getting dust in the vault.
So you rather be thankful to generous fans, even if of course, Prince wrote and played and recorded the music. But shelved music that nobody can hear gives little pleasure.

OK, we're gonna do it again because obviously people answer to threads without reading them (which says so much about them...)
Yes, I know, thank you. I actually said this in the original thread, I'm so glad you're here to repeat my very words

Mmmh.. I always thought BOC was the same sequence than Chocolate Box (http://www.discogs.com/Pr...ase/536525) but I now realize my mistake. So this particular collection didn't exist as such earlier? Hey, Mr. know-it-all, he was talking about the configuration etc not actually letting it loose as a bootleg. "Climb in my fur."

Oh, but I'm having so much fun....

I don't think it was a setlist that was put together by Prince for anything. I'd also guess that if it were such a thing, then it would have had information regarding that somewhere in the artwork.
I could of course be wrong. I very often am.

It's a possibility. Could have made by anyone in Prince's camp at that time.

I don't know. However, if I was to guess, I'd say that these tracks all came from the same source tape, apart from the last couple of tracks (which sound ever so slightly differently sourced, if you know what I mean). I'd hazzard a guess that the rest originated on the same tape. Was this an intentional 'configuration?' (one of those hundreds of completed Vault albums we hear about), possibly, but I doubt it, due to the Moviestar/place in Heaven segue missmatch. Whatever the story behind where these quality tracks came from, I'm just glad they did. For free! Amazing stuff ![]() blah blah blah

But to answer your question: some stuff was compiled based on the old boot "Chocolate Box", but it came from different tapes. So no, not a Prince compilation. Busy doin' something close to nothing

Oh... thanks a lot for the answer dude, it's good to know
erik319, I wasn't thinking of a proper album configuration, just a tape made for someone's personnal use, but anyway it's solved now

He knows full and well of his bootlegs that are out there, but can care less at this point who hears it until it actually affects his money.

I don't think he meant bootlegs but post-mortem legit releases, because whatever he's been recording every day for the last 17 years isn't and won't be bootlegged. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I got what I deserved indeed: I deserved an answer because I'm so cool, and vc40 provided one.
I also deserved a hug yesterday but unfortunately didn't get any, despite the fact that, as already said, I'm so fucking cool.
