Apples and Oranges

Hello my fellow Orgers. I am about to touch on a subject that many will feel has been done to death, especially here. Without willing to descend into diatribe and 'stan' territory, I would like to mention the name 'Michael Jackson' if I may.

I was listening to Purple Rain earlier (the 1983 performance) and noticed a few of the comments. It seems that people are always comparing Jackson and Prince because they were both huge in the eighties. Many people say this is not grounds for comparison. Perhaps they are right. I am certainly not qualified to make that judgement.

However, it struck me as bizarre that the two are always compared. Why don't people make a similar comparison between, say, Elvis and Jimi? Their careers overlapped somewhat. One was more of a pop artist, and one was a popular musician. If they did compare them, it would be a split consensus, I reckon. However, in the Prince vs. Michael debate, the general public tends to side with Jackson, not knowing what Prince is truly capable of.

The purpose of this thread is not to ask 'who is better?' but to pose the question 'why these two artists?'

Of course, it'll probably be locked within minutes hours.

Here is a slightly different angle - why did Prince and MJ agree to come to Earth at about the same time? In my world, we agree in the upper world before one comes to Earth.

Having stated this, i was a Paisley with a lot of other fams for an evening in October shortly after MJ transitioned, Prince sang some of MJ's songs and was spot on. Not only that, love and respect flowed from Prince when he performed the songs. I can't say that i felt MJ's soul connect to what was going on and flow back to us; however, Prince, as soul, and all present must have sent MJ one big love wave. And, we can thank Prince for starting the wave.

Compare? It is not necessary.
