from the versions of Empty Room floating around, what do you think is the best version? is it live version or a studio boot..am interested to hear your views

i quite like all of them but would love to hear the original 80's version.

The 'C-Note' is amazing IMHO.

the unreleased 1993/1995 studio version. i always forget what year it is from.

it's simply perfection, start to finish. with the guitar solo just right. it's brilliant.

i was very happy to see him start to perform this live and even include a good

enough version on the c-note album. but all in all, i don't like any of his live

performances of this quite as much as the studio version. despite him playing

some wicked guitar during some performances. it's something about the vocal

track that i just love to bits on the 90s studio version.

and the live versions all fail to live up to that. what irks me most about cnote's

version is the way he does half in his low voice and half in his high voice and it

feel totally like "wtf?"

listening to the studioversion right now it's cool until the last possible second,

when you hear that drumhit echo. the guitar is a.m.a.z.i.n.g.

is it true that this was on an early configuration of "chaos and disorder" toward

the end of the tracklist?

if so, that hurts. that really, really hurts that he took it off. the bootleg version

we have is good quality but to have that track in pristine cd quality would be a

dream come true.

i must have listened to it at least 300 times. and it still gives me chills. just wow.

Montreux 2009 was incredible. It actually made me tear up!

But i'd also nominate the Aug. 28th 2007 London aftershow performance. I was at the front and was stood still mesmerised.

Yep. Montreux 2009 is the definitive version of this in my opinion.

pretty sure that the so-called "'90s" version is actually the 1985 version.

YEP! Hands down my favorite actually! I think that one rips all other versions out the water!

ALSO..I love the one he did in Zurich, than Andy Posted on her facebook! I caught hold to the whole performance and it is simply mindblowing!

Even Prince sounds emotional in this version.

I think its the 1986/87 version from the time of his break up, it sounds moe raw and personal, you can not sugar coat a song like that. This is anguish set to music.

The distant falsetto and heavy kick drum along with his piano playing brings the bite into his lyrics. The guitar solos enhance the bitterness of the lyrics. The relationship that gave us his most personal songs ever was ending and he was not happy about it.

I think you should all listen to Big Tall Wall as well, its a few months earlier, where he is trying to be optimistic but the lyrics are very controlling, he is basically saying she needs to stay loyal to him, but he can do what he wants.

Overall very emotional song.
