I'm typing on my iPad so I can't go and cut and paste all the thread titles I am talking about but all of them on on the first page of this forum. They are not all discussing bootleg titles but all of them are discussing bootlegs.

But whenever you make a new post, like this one, all you do is provoke an immediate response from one of the naysayers like me. If you and rdhull stopped responding to djThunderfunk, tittypants, myself, and others, the controversial threads would eventually drop down the list and we'd be back to speculating about remasters for the 10,000th time.

What exactly would be lost if this place happened to disappear for whatever reason? What are y'all getting from it?

Housequake's shutdown was one of the worst moments the Prince fanbase has ever seen, but losing the org? What would be really lost and missed is beyond me.

What would happen is that the discussion would quickly shift to another platform. There are other Prince fan websites out there that are kept going only by a few dedicated contributors because some people come here for their bootleg news. As a consequence, the main traffic stays here. If this is now going to be the "clean" website where we stay away from any talk about bootlegs in return for immunity from the Prince police, then that decision should be made by the mods and announced here.

EVERY time a site gets shut down, there is a discussion (this time, for some reason there are two that should be merged into one). There is no org rule about how many bootleg discussions are had per week. That would just be... weird.

For me, I've made a lot of friends here. The online sense of community is what I feel I would lose. I don't give a damn about the prince discussion forum because it's the same topics over and over again with the same folks spouting vitriol at each other as if their opinions were more important than others. If it goes away, oh well but I'd miss the folks who don't frequent Facebook. It seems kind of fucked up to want to make it fail though.

The online community is not going away. There are other websites ready to welcome it which offer the same features and more. And I'm not talking about Facebook. Prince.org feels like a party where the neighbors are threatening to call the police. If the party gets shut down here we can all head somewhere else. It's up to Ben and the mods what they want this place to be.

TDG is just the latest episode in the ongoing "fuck you, Prince" series. Look at the threads when concerts have been cancelled, or when he's gotten into some financial trouble. They shoot to the top of the forum because it's interesting: it's news. Now, you could have a website with tighter moderation rules where overt attacks on Prince are not allowed. Maybe there is a need for such a site. But whether prince.org should be that site is not for you or I to decide.
