No, I did not know that the pic is from 1999. It was with other pictures from the Purple Rain era at a site I found. I have not seen that pic before.

Wow...I'm really getting old!

It's been almost 29 years since my dad helped me create a Prince a la Purple Rain costume for Halloween ... we dipped his cowboy boots in purple, dyed his white doctor's coat purple, slicked up my hair and cut out a cloud guitar using extra linoleum from renovating our kitchen floor.

I still remember walking onto the bus that day, back in 3rd or 4th grade, and feeling like a real rock star. smile Too bad there are no pictures...

Purple Rain (and to a lesser extent, Graffiti Bridge) always remind me of my dad, because we went to see them together in the theater and he always had nothing but glowing things to say about Prince. This was before his alcoholism got the best of him, and it reminds me that we had some good times growing up, along with the bad ones. I love you, dad.

On a side note, I took him to see one of the Musicology shows in 2004 and I will always remember the surreal joy of chanting "Freaks on This Side!" along with him. Good times.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Sex is not love. Love is not sex. Putting words in other people's mouths will only get you elected.

Need more sleep than coke or methamphetamine.

Prince did something that even Michael Jackson has never achieved...

(sorry to mention him - MJ)

Prince, having a movie, a single and an album all on position #1 on Billboards/ the charts at the same time..

WDC was the single IIRC,

and then the PR movie & album

all at number 1 the very same time.

Not done since The Beatles and Elvis Presley.. AFAIK.

Damn, and Prince & The Revolution won an oscar too, 1984 was incredible...

I was in several theaters in Ã…lborg and Copenhagen / Denmark, watching the movie 3 or 4 times, later I rented a VHS tape and a Video "Moviebox", and watched the movie on Tv....

Later again I bought the VHS tape, the dvd too some years later..

And yes, I love the movie, even it is so amateurish, it has a certain charme..

and to watch Prince on that stage, those live scenes.. and hear him talk... wow..

Prince 4Ever. heart

the music was great...the acting was terrible (ecept for Morris and Jerome)...the ending was predictable...

I give it a 5 out of 10...

I don't look at the acting as terrible, because a lot of the acting was 'non-speaking' and it was very good, Prince did good with a lot of that, scenes like the violent family scenes were very real, the pre-Beautiful Ones scene in the dressing room was really good especially Wendy, Prince's breakdown after his father attempted suicide

I mean a lot of the scenes were really short cuts and it was simple, Morris & Jerome were campy and humorous, I don't think it made it better acting though

I think there were many scenes that evoked a lot of emotion without speaking, the scene with the band in the dressing room waiting before Purple Rain. When Apollonia & Prince "made up" in the hall the emotion and expression was really good

I think the "family home" scenes were really good

One of the things that added dimension to this movie was the touch of mystery, for me it made me ask questions and look around especially when it came to the dressing room the 1st Avenue backstage and Prince's home n more specifically what the script called the 'womb' his downstairs living area

I would be happy in 2014 if they would play purple rain on MTV or vh1, but I doubt it.

It's a miracle that the movie ever got made let alone became a hit.

Prince was known and a buddying superstar, but he wasn't a household name and he didn't have any No. 1 hits.

It was filmed in Minneapolis.

Only about 2 or 3 people in the movie had any acting experience whatsoever. Which shows at times.

I don't think there's a chance in hell for a movie like that to be made these days.

Who would be able to pull that off?

1st off, I can't think of any up and coming R&B/Pop stars that they would let star in a movie unless he or she was already a huge superstar.

2nd, they'd make them film it in Toronto and try to pass it off as Minneapolis.

3rd, there's no way in hell they'd let a majority of the cast be people who have never acted before.

That was during a time when the entertainment industry in general was willing to take more risks.

I think that's what makes the whole Purple Rain experience so amazing.

JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!
