Father is dead with his boring plastic jams. For truly exciting, organic jams, go listen to the son, i.e. D'Angelo's latest rendition of summertime thang at Bonaroo with Questlove, Eric Leeds, Jesse Johnson and Pino Palladino among others. THAT one has soul and energy, unlike Prince's plastic jams which I actually like but not love cuz he seems to be playing them mechanically, actually even the solos, which are kinda nice, still sound a bit robotic on this jam. Makes me sad as a long-standing Prince fan who has seen him so many times over the years, but I just think it is time to move on, which is why I actually almost never bisit and post at prince.org any longer. Still love Prince though, and always will. It is just that he has aged and has lost his edge, although arguably less so than many top stars before him, something we should all give him credit for

Yes, even positive criticism is frowned upon here. Freedom of speech? No chance. You're either in or you're out.

As you said, "am I stopping you?". Say what you like. All opinions are welcome here. You're just wrong. Thats my opinion. Its sounds damn funky to me, and I love it thats he's revisited his '95 material. Look back at some of the comments on this thread. You call that 'positive criticism'? Its just purile and embarrassing. Sure, its not the best version of all time. Its . . . a . . . rehearsal!! The man has put this stream out for free. He thought we might find it interesting to hear the jam. He'll think twice about doing that again.

I've also just heard "Medicine Man" by The Bamboos. You think thats funky??!! lol lol Seriously? Looks like we're on opposite ends of the spectrum. Anyway, no hard feelings. We like what we like. I'll take Days of Wild thanks. wink

So is your point that these jams should be free of critique because they were streamed for free?

Surely any artist exhibits their work expecting feedback - otherwise what's the point? To some fans it would be disingenuous to faun over everything Prince puts out simply for the sake of it.

iloveannie, and others, have every right to express their opposing opinion based on their personal taste. It certainly doesn't make them 'wrong'

'He'll think twice about doing that again' - unless Prince has spoken to you personally you can't possibly know that. The Fdeluxe response from the last jam didn't appear to put him off, so I very much doubt it.

Imo it's good for an artist to get a diverse reaction to their works - kinda offers some balance. It could actually encourage further growth

Ahh, now there was no reason to mess with Ain't Nobody. Leave that alone and this jam is alright.

Some of y'all trippin'. This is a rehearsal, it's not a live performance with an audience and a band feeding off each other. For what it is, it's pretty dang good. But imagine this at the end of a set, pre-encore, or at an afterparty. The vibe would be totally different.

Oh, one more thing. Metallica is better now than they were in 1983. lol Jus' sayin'.

Okay so my comments may have been slightly flippant but I think what I really feel is bored. I'm just so bored with everything Prince has been putting out lately. Okay so it's excellent but it's not pushing any boundaries and for me that is an essential part of my musical enjoyment. And I really don't care for the excuses that people make for him. He's in charge of what gets out there and if he doesn't want any reaction then he shouldn't do it. I think he's so wrapped up in this little high-life of his that he's lost the ability to write a good song. Perhaps he no longer cares for music the way he once did. I don't know. Either way I'm thankful that there is more music being made than I can ever listen to by so many people but at the same time so sad that he no longer seems to be the musician I was once in awe of.

Wow. I just heard this. I've been aware of the track since it became a sticky, but after the last few leaked tracks were just so messy I didn't care enough to click play on the track. And now that I have, I think the whole thing is just a crime of poor taste. The Chaka Kahn part, the Wild and Loose part. None of it was exciting or interesting. Somebody play Prince "Toast To The Party Girl" so he can remember how jams are done. Shelby and them are stuck in the same rut as Prince and at this point his reputation as a live act is doing the chili sauce. lol

I give up. Its a rehearsal recording. No more. Its not his next single or off a new album. I really do not understand the abuse. They are just rehearsing. A few fuck ups here and there. He's obviously not singing to full performance level. I've been bored with his recent setlists. He's pretty much playing the same set since 2004. Sure, now thats bullshit. But this? Nah, its still pretty funky to me and he's putting rehearsing some of those '95 jams for his live shows. Thats a GOOOOD thing people. To say he's all washed up and you're done with him based on this is ridiculous. Judging by his recent Oz shows he still seems to be doing it live. I don't want to sound like an apologist, but some of you need to chill.

Well if you are bored u have 2 options. Either move on to something that excites you or lower your expectations for what u want from Prince. Its pretty childish to expect prince to "push boundaries" for u forever. He's a man not Jehovah. Prince still writes good songs but you want him to blow your mind which isn't likely to happen to a great degree at this point in time.

And you should not be worried about why he doesn't. That he doesn't is the reality. He is living a life just like you are and his desires are not the same as yours.

Malloy you are sooooo right. Don't understand all this fuzz about a rehearsal (!). Purpose of rehearsing is to practice together and not to produce the next purple rain song. Just enjoy the output from the man from time to time and relax!

Should I bother to explain when my post has clearly not been understood? I'm not upset about this, nor are others. I have a busy life and it doesn't revolve around a popstar's recordings. It's only a post on a forum, only a brief snapshot of a comment. My comments, like everyone else's here are not worth anything. Certainly not worth getting flustered over. As soon as this phone is put away the org ceases to be a part of my life. Surely everyone is the same?
But if I think it's a shame that prince can't do what he once did it shouldn't really matter to anyone. I'm also gutted that Freddie Mercury is dead, the Beatles are no more and that nobody makes me chuckle like Kenny Everett. It's not worth getting upper over, upset I meant, but that doesn't mean i'm not allowed to make conversation.
Seriously why does everybody on the org, well quite a few, get so irate? It's only an internet site set up to focus on the life of prince. It's not child rape, african genocide or the chinese fur trade. I mean, seriously, why all the drama all the time...?

Everything else, stays too far in the loop..But hey it's a rehersal..No Sweat. It does not convince me Prince has lost his edge and became weak. lol

This jam is nothing more than a jam, it's not giving us any insight that Prince has lost his flavor and funk..

I am curious as to what would make one think that based on a jam?

He still has it, and I don't need to prove it..It's just obvious..IMO

We already know he is one of the greatest artists around. AND he'll continue to be...However..in greatness, one still misses. And he 'Missed' it for me here..but It's not often he does. (Well for some it probably is..lol)

But when he does; it demonstrates to me..He's human and does what he wills flaws and all. I can't change that and honestly I would not want to. Someone will LOVE it, and for those that will..Keep on! headbang headbang

I still love Prince and his music... headbang

I rather dance to the Dance Electric now, smile

Here is the good news! Prince has a HUGE catalog...Most likely there are several songs to listen to if you don't like another particular song. He has given us so much, that we can ignore the ones we are not feeling for ones we like. Now everyone wins..lol

End of discussion for me. smile

After 6 or 7 plays, I'm gonna say that I am actually loving this at this point.. It's a mash-up of so many great things.. Days of Wild/Wild And Loose/Get Wild/ **(Mixing those three based on the title alone is kinda awesome) plus Ain't Nobody / America (who else got a little chicken skin when that bass riff kicked in )

I mean, P is just letting people hear these long, loose jam sessions, for FREE, the kind of stuff people were paying $60 for on an Italy Import CD (How much did YOU pay for the 'Soul Psychedelocide' rehearsal CD back in the day), and that was an HOUR of almost the same riff..

I like how he's revisiting the nuggets and protege stuff (Dance Electric, Ice Cream Castles, Mutiny, Wild and Loose, and this, with some of the 90's era funk) **though I don't really care for the new Extraloveable much either**

I'll take this version over the 'One Mo' Jam' Version any day, (Crystal Ball version and the Guitar solo WNPG segment still take the cake, and if he tore it up on the guitar like back then, Damn!) though the mixing is rough , certainly just a soundboard source, without the dynamics this(these) jams deserve (Drums Up/Guitar Up/Fuller Bass/etc)

I Hope He Keeps this Up.. I'm liking P as the new Jam Band.. 20 minute jams beat out the same 'greatest hits' set he's been playing so much lately (Please , No more 'Kiss' ... Ever... Please!)

I'd love a nice double disc set of 10-20 minute rehearsal jams ... it's been a while since we had so many in such a short time (read; The Bird Rehearsal/Noon Rendevouz Rehearsal/Feline Rehearsal)

~Just my thoughts~

~SH78

I agree with much of this. Right on! wink

Me too! So Funky!! I'm glad some are digging this and taking it in the context it was intended. I'd take Extralovable 11 over EL 82 though.....
