isn't the aria charts like the official australian charts? just wondering if prince did a performance on the voice, he would be number 1.

The best part of this going budget release was the b-sides - imagine all those people picking this up looking for the usual guff, and getting blasted by 17 Days, She's Always In My Hair etc, etc - these "single worthy" b-sides are gonna blow some people away. smile

Well, what do you know... Way to go Prince! At least if he releases something new in Oz, we could eventually have access to it on this side of the pond. razz lol

It goes to prove that there is some of his music that is timeless and will go up & down in the charts.

I think people forget about Prince. They're generally wrapped-up in the world of modern throw-away by-the-numbers pop twaddle like Lady Gaga and One Direction. When Prince tours, once a decade or so, they're reminded that he's still around and of just how remarkable he is compared to your usual production line pop artist. I think that thoughts similar to "oh yeah, pop doesn't have to be mindless shit" and "musicianship is a good thing" pass through their addled brains....all too briefly of course.

In the words of Randy Newman " Its just a lucky break that he's around.....people ought to notice him a little more..."

I wonder how many album sales it really takes to get up top of the Aussie charts?

2, 10 & 14 are the positions he holds as of 21st. It will be interesting to check again on the 28th.

We're only a small country so it probably doesn't take that many sales to get in the charts but it still means he is selling more than almost anyone else!

Prince drops to 14 (from 5) on the top 50 on the charts-not the catalogue. But top 50 charts.

I must admit I bought this album on the weekend. I'm building my collection (13 albums down... So many to go) and I was gonna get this one later down the line cause "Greatest hits" albums annoy me. But I saw it in Target of all places for $15 and thought even if I only listen to the b-side disc thats a pretty sweet deal.

Yes I know I'm a sucker :-p

I'm not a chart-chaser by any means - havent been in prob 20 years....but anyhoo.

The 3-disk set was sold at the mech stands at the concerts. Would they count as album sales as well?

Also, i read that Madonna included her latest album in her US show ticket sales - Musicology tour anyone? Except i read that those sales counted as per normal album sales - which no doubt contributed to her No.1 album spot and then her spectacular slide in the 2nd week.

I thought the Record Industry Ass people changed that when Prince tried it with Musicology, so that Prince's sales wouldn't count back in 2003. Was that just WB sticking it to Prince back then? nana

Doth my memory betray me?

yes it betrayed you. In order for the cd to count toward charts you have to offer a ticket price with the cost of a CD and a ticket price without a CD. And that is what Madonna did.

I've never understood his reluctance to put out live DVDs/videos.

Sign o' the Times was OK but so much of it was reshot at Paisley Park later. The Rave 2000 concert is not that great, by his standards. The Las Vegas show was good, but not representative of a Prince concert - really.

He is one of the best live performers there has ever been and yet hasn't put out a really top quality live DVD. They really aren't that expensive to produce these days and it would only encourage more people to go to his shows.
