Still Would Stand Appreciation

Still would stand all time is such a moving Gospel ballad. I don’t see how anyone who has gone through adversity and are familiar with this song could not become moved by the end of this song. “Life was closing in I just knew I couldn’t take it”. Say what you want about the film, but he obviously tried to use the music to tell the story in a way that the pictures were not meant to. Movies aside, Purple Rain is classic moving ballad that Prince wants us to hear at least once live. Still would stand all time is also a very deeply moving song. Anybody agree? I am recovering from the loss of a love one right now so maybe I am biased in my opinion I just heard the song again for the first time in a long while, very moving.

It's one of the best songs Prince has ever made. Especially towards the end, the music and the passion with which he sings is as good as it gets! Purple Rain is a very good song but this one is better.

One of my all time favorites.

The emotions in his voice throughout the song are quite incredible!!!

Has he ever played this live? I think not

Yes a beautiful track and perhaps more beautiful than PR because we don't listen to it often so it remains original. Never saw the movie but appreciate the music although not familiar with all the lyrics. I'll have to listen some more.

Music always helps when needing to move forward through challenges, good luck. rose

One of my faves. Also think it's one of his best vocal performances. Gorgeous phrasing.

Beautiful heart I think this is one of Prince's best soul songs.

It feels to me that when he sings this, his sounds and words are so in tune with things of a spiritual nature, it feels like getting a massage of the heart yes

For me, this arrangement opens an awareness of things not seen and is an intense inspirational. Many times I've felt a sort of oneness with all things when Still Would Stand All Time is playing. It's HUGE imo rainbo

It was created during the Lovesexy tour/years, the live rendition kills the studio

but I can't stand the 1 show where they make it churchy near the end and Taylor Dayne proceeds with being off key

Have it on my headphones now, just letting it come through the murk and the haunting vocals and piano, this is is a real ear filler. Brilliant and sublime. This is just first rate Prince balladry. Then that flute/horn thing at 2.11 just caps it off for me, I am in delirium.

The music is so powerful, it many ways it really achived pushing the message through in the movie, at least it did for me when I was only 16. I love this song, very moving.

Wow! All these comments ring so true for me.

This is also one of my all time favourite Prince songs.

It is such a beautiful and heart felt song. heart heart

The ending is delivered so poignantly.......I was really moved when I first saw this appear, in the movie Graffiti Bridge.

Does anyone have a link to the live version?

That is one of my favorite Prince songs. The song does not get enough credit.

Small Club is legendary and all that but surely the live version on that is just an early "workthrough" version?

Yes I know its raw and emotional but it's also a work in progress, fairly repetitive or improvised lyrically and doesnt really go anywhere in my opinion

Gimme the fully fledged, lyrically finished, studio version any day of the week. cool

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.
