I have a VHS tape somewhere, James is shouting 'Prince, Prince get on the stage' something like that.

Then P is entering the stage, performing with splits and playing one guitar from the JB band,

actually rather cool, until P knocks down a lamp post at the end.

If people wants to believe this never happend,

This is what people may think. But in reality, we truly are cool for being the only ones understanding the laws of physics and photoshop, which clearly indicate that Prince never, ever shared a stage with JB and MJ and Elvis.

I think what hurt Prince was using someone else's guitar into a rig that wasn't his.... I've never known James Brown guitarists to have/use distortion...but, if Prince had access to a distortion pedal, he would have killed it. He wasn't working with much, I'm afraid. He did get to show off a little of his rhythm chops... but, as a fan, there's a feeling that a screaming solo would have bought the place down.

If memory serves correctly it was actually a left hander, in which case he did pretty damm well to get any sound at all.

Yes it was a left hander, he managed it.

Actually Al Sharpton said James Brown told him that Michael Jackson and Prince were the only two on his level. Not the exact words but something like that. Anywho I'm glad they removed Prince from that video. I love Prince , but that was embarrassing.

You mean the only two in his level in the 80's? 'Cause he couldn't neglect Stevie or Ray Charles too, if he was talkin' about rnb. Unless he was saying Prince and MJ were the only two who could make funky music as him. But then again, if Ray isn't exactly funky, Stevie has a lot of funk gems... I'll look for a source of that statement.

Yeah, I read that either here, or in some biography about Prince (or maybe MJ, can't remember).

The interview of James posted above highlights what I was referring to though.

He says he endorses 1 kid (Michael), and has a lot of problems with the other two (which I presume are Eddie Murphy and Prince, people that he named before). He says basically his problem with Prince is the "dirty" aspect of his music. James has a lot of sexy lyrics, of course Prince's are much more strong, but since he talks about sex too, what's the problem with dirty? Or did he mean something else by dirty?

Was he a moralist, puritain or something? It's so funny to suppose that James Brown could be something like this, but then again it's not so unlikely. It could be the culture, the religion he lived with. Both Michael and Prince were JW...

ALAN LEEDS: Prince went to a James Brown gig [in 1983] with Bobby Z, his drummer at the time, Big Chick, who was his security guard, and I think Jill Jones, who was one of his protégés. By now, everybody knows what happened at that gig. I don’t think Prince realized that Michael was going to be there. James looked a little puzzled in that video when Michael whispered in his ear, “Hey, bring Prince up.” And of course Prince didn’t really know what to do either. He went to the guitar first but he fumbles with that because it was left-handed. He played a few licks, did some dancing and knocked over a prop by accident. Now I always wondered if Michael intentionally brought Prince up to put him in that position just to say, “Hey, you think you’re on my ass? Well follow this, mother****er [laughs].” Bobby Z called me and said, “Oh boy…he made an ass of himself tonight.” He said Prince didn’t say a word the whole way to the hotel.

I don't think Michael was trying to damage Prince. I think he was trying to be friendly. After all Michael was like that, friendly and almost innocent, and he has talked positively about Prince many times.

But I wouldn't doubt that Prince at the time and even in the 90's thought the worst of Michael and his intentions, not only regarding this episode. Although I feel that, now that Prince is older, he must have left some of those extravagant ideas and behaviours behind.
