What are your thoughts on Kip Blackshire in Prince's Music?

With all of this talk about Shelby (like her or not), I was wondering what did you guys think of Kip? Prince allowed him to shine as he does with Shelby. I remember during the Hit-N-Run tour that Kip's vocals were really strong and at times overshadowed Prince.

To me, Kip and Shelby are very similar vocally. They have strong gospel-type voices and can easily oversing. Personally, I think he has a great voice, but some of his background vocals were a tad overbearing, however, Prince still managed to shine.

So my question to you guys is, did you like or dislkie Kip's input on Prince's musc and stage shows?

kip wasn't used half as much on stage as shelby. i only remember the paisley park musicology aftershows as being ones where kip was doing main vocals as prince had the problems with his voice around that time

i dj'd at before a gig for kip and saw him soundcheck and he was pretty talented. he had a track called i got what you need which could have been a hit single

i guess i sat through more than enough shows and aftershows with shelby to know how much she can dominate a show, especially the o2 aftershows

I liked him...in my opinion, Shelby is just way to present in Prince's current lineup...when she's singing half the songs, then something is just plain wrong.

Kip got alot of spotlight, but he also had a great voice...

I love Kip and Shelby and think that both highlight Prince's ability to master more than one style of music. I love that when I play a Prince record or attend a Prince show that I'm going to hear rock, funk, and soul/R&B/gospel.

I like Kip's sound and in part it may have been because of first seeing him at Paisley Park. Everything there always seemed so huge, the sound so intense and new.

When I saw Shelby with Prince I thought she was a good singer but I didn't feel the same strange range of sound or energy. But no complaints here, Prince has never disappointed me with any of his shows. I'd gladly go see Prince with any one he chooses to play with because Prince puts together the tighest bands in the universe imo headbang music

He's probably best known for his vocals on The Rainbow Children. He's the voice you hear at the beginning of "Wedding Feast." He also toured during the Hit-N-Run Tour.

Not instantly memorable - damn, I had to check him out on Princevault for historical references - I gather he was around quite a bit circa 1991-2001

On that basis it's a thumbs down from me confused

Give me Shelby over Kip a thousand times.

can't stand him, he looks silly at the Rave 2 the year 2000 concert. Then again, everybody does.
