What Prince songs do you turn to when you're feeling low?

You know those times in life when you're kinda feeling sorry for yourself or allowing certain situations to drag you down (and I do understand that not everyone can control such things), do you turn to any of Prince's music to help you out of it?

If so, what songs do you prefer? Do you go for the more emotional ones, like Last December, Comeback, In This Bed I Scream, Beautiful Ones, stuff like that?

Or do you prefer to try something with more energy to help lift you out of it?

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

"Free" - Something about this song has a sort of strong magic to it, as if the lyrics help me feel better about my U.S. branded freedom and about my place in the world. And on top of the lyrics the delivery of the gospel-tinged vocals and music just move me to feel sooo good. I cannot be at least as sad or down in the dumps after I hear this tune. One of my faves from 1999.

"Gold" - This song is right up there paralleled with "Purple Rain" among his very best masterpiece epics. I still don't quite understand what he means in the lyrics but I at least have confidence that Prince was trying to make one of those bold-life-lesson sort of statements that makes a philosophical resonance in all listeners' ears. That, and the music - those blissful little keyboard sounds in the chorus just lift me so high and give me goosebumps. And hell don't even get me started on that guitar solos towards the end of the song. One of my all-time favs!

Those are the only two songs that really have a positively strong effect on my mood really.

Oh, I don't let somebody get me sad. They would be winning if they made me sad. I turn my sadness into anger and start evil scheming on them. lol And when I do, I like to hear the hardest rock songs out there like "Bambi", "Endorphine Machine", "Interactive", "I Like It There", "Let's Go Crazy", "I'm Yours", etc. The kind of stuff that puts me in a "stomp a mudhouse in someone's ass" mood. lol

Andy is a four letter word.

^ right,

I had a depression in 2001 and also in 2003.

I remember I was walking in the local park, between the trees, in rain and shine... listening to Lovesexy on my Sony DiscMan (haha before the MP3 players).

But, Lovesexy - I was playing this album again and again, on repeat.

The only song I was skipping was Dance On.

The rest was - and still is - pure dope to my brain.

I love the Lovesexy album so deeply.

And it had then a very positive effect on me.. both then and now. Like Sfinky1 said:

Lovesexy is so uplifting. I love both: the music and the message. music

(I haven't had a depression since then, but if it happens one day, I know what music I will be listening to).

I like being in a bad mood sometimes, I usually don't try to bring myself out of it. Prince isn't my first choice for depression, usually, but I like these..

Sometimes It Snows In April

Purple Rain

Soul Sanctuary

The Dance

With You

North

The Love We Make [when I'm finally ready to be uplifted]

It kinda depends on the mood I'm in. If I'm depressed and want to kinda wallow in my self pity for a while, then I usually listen to songs like Sometimes in Snows in April, Old Friends 4 Sale, Sign O The Times, Slave, Computer Blue, Wasted Kisses, 3 Chains 'O' Gold and Thieves In The Temple. When I'm feeling down and wanna lift my spirits, I switch to songs like Gold, Compassion *Am I the only one that liked that song!?* New Power Generation, Let's Go Crazy, The One, Emancipation, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, and Lovesexy *the entire album* That's kinda why I love Prince so much, he has music for EVERY mood, and then the subcatagories of those moods so I have something to listen to when I'm sad and wanna stay sad, or when I'm sad and wanna get pumped.

Purple is the color of my heart,
Bruised from you leaving me.
