The Dance Electric. His Best Song Ever.

I've been playing the funk out of the exended version of The Dance Electric for the last week.

I really do believe it's his greatest song.

Never should have given it away. Should have been a tatle track, Could given Andre something else.

Now giving him this song proves his love for Andre.

Prince needs to pull it out the vault with Our Destiny Roadhouse Garden All Day All Night and give us the sound of 1984 again.

I've dug 20ten for he most part and it was a step in the right direction but I fear more of the 1970's inspired funk.

Surley it's what we all want.

Something BIG Is Coming.

The Dance Electric is one of his best somgs he ever made if not THE best, I agree. I think it is the best definitive song of the Monneapolis sound IMO. Love it!

Prince The Dance Electric Lyrics

Good morning children

Take a look out your window

Our world is falling

It's almost time 2 go

(Dance)

Dance the Dance Electric

The rhythm is love and love is blind

Love your enemies

There isn't much time, there isn't much time

Look - our world is falling

A rhythm-less house of blinded prophecy

Hear our Master calling

This isn't what He wanted us 2 be

We got 2 dance the Dance Electric

Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul

Come on and dance the Dance Electric

We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

Don't - it don't make U happy

2 give another someone your own smile

Dance the dance electric

Never mind your hatred, try a brand new style

Dance the Dance Electric

Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul

U got 2 dance the Dance Electric

We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

We... love... all... enemies

Look - U're livin' in Babylon

Makin', but not feelin' love at all

When your youth is gone, when it comes 2 dawn

A light of truth will shine and U will fall

That's why U got 2 dance the Dance Electric

Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul

U got 2 dance the Dance Electric

We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go

See the light inside of us

U're stuck in living, livin' life as bad

Whatever U do, don't U let your life go without my love

It's the only life that U will ever have

Why don't U (dance) dance the Dance Electric?

Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul

Why don't U dance the Dance Electric?

We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go (almost time 2)

Dance the Dance Electric

Listen 2 the rhythm of your soul

Come on and dance the Dance Electric

We better love each other, it's almost time 2 go cool

In it's extended form it certainly is a contender.

From it's era (1983-1985) only When Doves Cry and Computer Blue better it for me.

I wish it had have been included on the follow up to Purple Rain.

I also think All day All night should have been kept another fantastic song given away.

Good example of the Mplsound as someone pointed out, but it's one dimensional, quite repetitive and flat. BUT, as a groove, it's quite a good one.

Prince is one of the most diverse, deep, profound and spiritual songwriters....respect to your opinion, but he cannot be defined by a song like this. Maybe a Rick James i.e. someone based entirely on a specific sound, but not Prince. It would be quite the task to pin him down by just one song.

Oh, and i would by far take the 70's inspired funk over the 80's Mplsound inspired funk. Simply because the 70's inspired funk can be updated with dignity intact, the Mplsound sounds so heavily dated if he tries to replicate it exactly how he use to do it as on most of 20ten (which i like). However, when he updates the Mplsound to something like Ol Skool Company, Dance 4 Me, Laydown or Black Sweat...I can get down with that.

But for the most part, the 70's inspired funk sounds much better today. I'm extremely excited to hear People Pleaser, for example.

I hear that.

Funny I was listening to teena maris Emeral City just now and she sings

"Listen to the rhythm of my soul!!"

Made an impact on her too.

I really think there is a lot of depth and passion in the production of this song. The climaxes are amazing. The various tom toms going th through the whole song the electric guitar and backwards vocal elements all create a feeling that it just might all end in the song itself. The extended version is now the only way to fully grasp this tune.

Your whole vibe is odd ot me. I got into Prince because of his 80's MN versions of funk. It was that different from the 70's vibe you're talking about. That's what seperated him fomr everyone else and made the music unique. While he was doing Computer Blue, Dance Electric, Love Bizarre and Anotherlover etc. Rick James was still on his horns and basic sound/structure ..played out. Dance Electric flat? Lawd almighty. That drum pattern/sound is greater than eanything any other rnb band or funk band put out in the entire 80's.

I came across wrong. I was talking today, what i'd like to hear today. Of course that's what separated him from the mould back then, but that sound is hard to update. 20ten sounds dated despite some modern arrangements and me liking it. I think Black Sweat was a very good example of an updated Mplsound, including the others i exampled.

Dance Electric does have amazing production and great programming, but it's not enough to hold such a title. I prefer real instruments/drums and Prince is a master at both ends. This only dabbles in one pie of many.

I mentioned i preferred the 70's inspired funk because that sound can be updated much more easily and has been whereas the Mplsound struggles. A lot of update attempts by anyone just sound 80s, techno or completely MTV.

Danceelectric:

great song and sound,

and - Danceelectric used to be my username, on housequake . com.

this fantastic fan-site that Prince hated, only because it was more popular, and far better than his 'official' sites ever were....

I miss those days, on HQ..... sad

never mind,

the world goes on, it is still turning, but Prince land was so cool yes it was.... back then.. cool

We really need the Prince vocal version to appear now in perfect quality.

Someone must have it in better quality than the one that is circulating.
