Prince did guitar work on Like a prayer (CD single not album), on Keep it together, and Act of contrition. Last but not least Love Song the duet with Madonna.

I love these kind of lists And sometimes, after all these years, I still get surprised!

I really thougth Jungle Love was a much bigger hit in the US, at least bigger than Jerk Out!!!

It was a bigger hit in Europe than Sugar Walls and others that didn´t even make the charts here,

so I have another view on the hits...

Didn´t Joe Cocker have a little hit with 5 women ?

And Dale with SimonSimon? us dance #33

I thought there was an omission. The Madouse single, (The Perfect) 10 made it to number 66 on the RnB chart.

But this is for the Top 40 hits, so that song wouldn't apply. I really love that track. Funky song.

Jungle love is always contentious. Officially, its a Prince penned track, but unofficially, it was written by Jesse. Its along the lines of:

Partyup - Actually written by Morris Day.

Do Me Baby - Acutally written by Andre Cymone.

We many never know for sure what the full story is.

On the flip side, you have Sheila claiming writing credit on a lot of her tracks, when in fact it was all Prince.

A family member was involved in a band that was a 1 hit wonder and he said he wrote a song on the album but he was not there when the band was putting together the cover and labels and someone else put his name as the songs writer. As so it was ever since. But he owes the copyright. too bad that song was never a hit.

How is writing a bassline the same as writing a song? Andre Cymone did not write the whole Do Me Baby.

5 women did not chart at all.

Dance charts ? well all the flops chart high on dance charts and usually dont reflect whats being played in clubs i am not sure how they come up with them

only reason i remembered this was i used to live in Africa back then and we never got any charts or any radio play and i used to tune in on monday nites to BBC for the UK charts and i vividly remember when they entered the charts.

I used to tune in on thursday nite to hear the top 40 charts on the VOA.

Yes, but for inspiration, she kinda ripped off Little Red Corvette

It's a bit of nitpicking, I know, but there are a few there that he definitely didn't write for the ones who had hits with them (Sinead comes to mind, as does Tom Jones).

A more all-encompassing title might be Top 40 hits written by Prince but performed by others.

I concur with the many others stating the need to differentiate between "samples", "remakes", "inspirations" and actual songs "written for others".

On a personal note...I really liked the stuff he did for Monie Love and think it was a shame that it didn't fare well here in the States.

ALSO - you are missing the stuff he did for Elisa Fiorello. "Ooh This I Need" was a hit here.

I remember "Ooh This I Need" because she performed it on Nia Peeple's Party Machine and it's forever ingrained in my mind.

Prince performed for three consecutive nights, March 25–27, 2009 on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and Fiorillo performed as one of Prince's backing vocalists on the 25th, and 27th shows. Fiorillo became a member of Prince's band in 2009. In 2010 she is currently on a world tour with Prince playing in sold out shows across Europe.
