It'd be interesting to see what you could work up with the Purple Rain and Around the world in a day era's being they are such busy artworks, i'd like to see what minimalistic approach you could give to them wink

See my next post, I'm gonna answer a few of these comments, you guys are rasing some brilliant points!

I'd like to see some artwork for releases post Warners. When Prince threw his toys out of the pram, his covers/art became on the whole.. cheap shoddy shite.

Just to answer a few points raised above.

Glad you like the Parade ones, I am particularly happy with them and probably enjoyed doing them the most.

The Paisley Park logo thing is a really interesting point, I hadn't even given it a thought. It was lifted from one the 90's lps I think, not sure I can't remember.

Around The World has been started and now I'm thinking of rejigging it after such a rrsponse. Not sure I've done the era now I think about it. I guess I'll post them as they are see if people dig where I was going with it.

Purple Rain may have to wait. Im dying to do it, but it's really tricky because of the obviosu film tie in stuff, and I don't want to lift the theme wholesale, rather give it my own twist. I'd like to think I've done that with the Batman ones, but obviously the Batman logo of the film had to be included to give it some authenticity.

Finally, now I know you guys are really lookign at these, try and spot any 'deliberate' mistakes! I'm certain in the copyright text there's some errors on years, due to some lazy cut and pasting... It's actually too small for me to check on the computer I'm typing on at the moment. Photoshop is on my other one. Oh and I forgot to put the barcodes on some.

I think I might have put that on by mistake. Anyway, added to my list of corrections and new suggestions which I will sort out, but definitely gonna do new ones first, I'm really pleased I put these on now cos I'm looking forward to doing lots more.

fucking fantastic

how about some artwork for extended/alternate versions of albums like 1999, purple rain, ATWAID, parade, camile, the funk bible, crystal ball, graffiti bridge, lovesexy, controversy, dirty mind, madhouse, family, etc? but in bigger sizes with the spaces for the tracklisting to be added afterwards? and back covers too?

A couple of people orgnoted me asking the same question.

It would be fun to do and the idea of doing it crossed my mind, of course, but I have reservations because albums are much more recognisable and loved. Seems like murky waters...lol

I do like the idea you have of leaving the tracklistings blank so people can do there own. I may do that eventually and post details on fonts etc. Nice idea.

that would be good, as a lot of people, myself included have made their own sets, or have sets other people have done, but with crappy artwork. most of the prince fonts are in circulation by fans already

btw, you've got barcodes on some stuff, but not others. personally i think whislt the barcodes might distract from the artwork it makes them look more authentic

Thanks Unique.

Yeah I have a few of my own 'seocial edition' versions of abums I've just compiled myself from rarities, bsides etc. and they do need 'authentic' new covers. With the fonts, they'll often be different from originals so I'd post whatever I use. The ones above follow font thems but none are the same as the originals.

Barcodes, yeah I started doing them and forgot to finish, If you look carefully you'll see they're all the same! wink

Cheers for the input, I'll definitely start looking into doing special edition albums. smile

Great job! Most excellent work. I agree with others on producing artwork for all the shite years of album covers. I'd be really interested seeing Musicology and beyond!

However, go back and look at some of the art work from that era...a lot of it is a little bit rough and soddy looking. Ie generic purple drops, etc. They didn't use movie imagery THAT much.

It's a good point. I suppose what I mean is when I'm looking for good, useable images that fit the album era etc. with Purple Rain it's hard not to just find either live tour pics (which I don't think make sense on single releases) or shots from the movie. I do search very hard for stuff and am thorough about using authentic pics for the eras, but if you have any images feel free to send them my way, I may be missing a lot of great stuff!

Forget I said that. I think I see what you mean now: I may as well use the movie stuff cos it's not used that much on the singles. Damn it, I'm doing Purple Rain next! smile

Not to say I'd never use live pics, hence Kiss is a Parade tour shot - but I felt it worked great for the song, and could actually be a clip from the vid. I actually always likes the live pic on I Could Never Take..., the way it more refers to the b-side Hot Thing. it's one my fave sleeves. biggrin

You should send the Parade ones to WB and/or Prince for a possible remastered series.

Probably nothing will happen, but it would be cool if new deluxe versions of Parade came with these bonus singles. cool

Although nice, I like the actual releases for the "Around the world in a day" singles better. Your Batman one are the ones I really like.

The new ones are great too. A couple of constructive critiques. Would have been nice to have a different pattern for the AWTWIAD material...not just color variants. Thought I do like the 60's vibe. Also, "America" not red, white, and blue?

Lastly, I LOVE the Let's go crazy/erotic city cover. Perhaps a picture of P with a guitar, rather than a a "Darling Nikki" shot?

Again, these are nitpicky things. These covers kick ass.
