I Always Come Back To Prince...

I haven't listened to Prince in a while, but I always come back to his music, old and new,; my favorites that give me renewed fortititude to meet the challenges in my life. I didn't listen to him after 1995 and then "rediscovered" his music a couple of years ago, when I heard "Better With Time" on the radio...after not listening to radio for a long time! What is your story; if you ever "left" Prince what is it that keeps bringing you back time after time after time... wink

I listen to him on and off, it's usually the musical hooks and grooves, and thinking he looks better and better each time though I know that sounds shallow, or it could be from discovering a performance I hadn't seen before and being impressed with his stage presence and moves.

I'm a huge music buff, to the point of geek status, but i never left.

No matter who i listen to or who i discover, no one touches this man. I'm left jaw dropped every time i listen or watch, no matter how much i've heard it or seen it.

The only one that had me thinking for a second about Prince's place on the throne was Sly Stone, but within about 3 minutes of that thought, i realised that Sly was merely a precurser to Prince and didn't do 10% of what Prince did upon hindsight.

Obviously, as a music buff, i don't listen to him none stop, but as also said, i never left. He's too good....The best.

I only gotta read the lyrics in your sig, Purplethunder, and i get chills!

That is possibly one of the resons you have never left him, you have not psychotically devoted every single music listening moment to him.

I think some people forget that there is a whole world of other music out there.

Possibly. But i do know his work, that is out there boot or official, inside and out....So i think the main reason is simply because he's too good.

I think we become a bit lazy on his genius because he's so addictive and so prolific.

Strange, isn't it? Some of us can go on for years without listening to P, only to rediscover him again and again.

I put P's music on the backburner for a few years for hiphop, but have been getting into his albums again recently. The same goes for Prince related artists.

The cool thing about being a P fan is that it's bigger than just him. His music can lead you back to such great artists as George Clinton, Chaka Khan, Miles Davis, Sly & The Family Stone & James Brown (I hear there's a video out there with him, P & MJ in it, but that's just a rumor, right? lol

What kind of music/artists did any of you listen to in favor of P for a while?

i think we always do. I had my pod on random yesterday on a lonnnnnnnnnnnng journey home but found myself hitting skip on nearly every P song that came on!. However I know that at some point I'll pull up one of the billion dedicated Prince sections in the pod and bob my head to and fro!.

I must say I was glad to find that he was alive and well, still performing, and pumping out music as he always has...whether people like it or not. lol
