The Money Don't Matter 2 Night thread got me thinking about Prince songs with a neo-soul feel. Neo-soul for me is contemporary R&B with an organic sound and mostly positive lyrics. Here's my attempt at Prince neo-soul mix. What would yours look like?

Pretty cool that we came up with 2 good mixes and none of the songs are the same. I bolded what I would add to my mix. Plus Doroth Parker as suggested.

What are the D'Angelo songs? (I mean I know who D'Angelo is, but what's this about Prince & his songs?)

we all know dangelo is a huge prince fan & has flattered prince in his music. prince being subversive turned the tables on dangelo & flattered dangelo with those 2 songs. if u prefer u can say both dangelo & prince flatter al green. listen carefully at those 2 songs & the cadence is unmistakenly dangelo/al green. i call them the dangelo songs because they are the only 2 songs i know of by prince that sound like him. for the record,dear mr. man flatters dangelo/al green & sly stone.

ah, now i get it. i almost put muse 2 the pharoah on the list, but the rap in the second half is a little too much, especially for a neo-soul mix. not sure if you've heard the bootleg from 2002 or so when prince sang the lyrics of adore over the melody of the first half of muse 2 the pharoah. that was awesome.

hmm, dear mr. man is a good addition. i might have to burn this thing to CD so i can put in the stereo.

never heard that version of muse but would love 2. i see what ur saying about the 2nd half of muse. prince loves 2 subvert songs. some might even say he ruins a perfectly good song but i say its prince being prince.

Isn't Power Fantastic the ultimate neo soul song or what?!?!?!?!

Neo soul has got to be the most vague genre especially when it comes to Prince. I'd even categorize songs like God and Damn U as neo-soul. I think album-wise Come, Rainbow Children and Old Friends 4 Sale have a lot of neo soul vibe.
