solo acoustic sets

In concert, do you prefer Prince solo on the piano (e.g. during 1999, PR, Lovesexy, ONA tours) or guitar (acoustic like on the Musicology tour)? I'd have to go for the piano as it seems somehow a bit more soulful and he seems less inclined to show off and focus on the song.

Harlepolis

That Le New Morning set from 86 showed how much of an underrated pianist/keyboardist he is.

The only acoustic set I ever really liked was the one played at Paisley during the 2002 Celebration, it's wonderful.

Other than that, I like piano sets.

More acoustic guitar sets please!!! I've already seen or heard the piano sets a hundred times. They're great, but enough already, unless he's going to play complete songs.

On acoustic guitar, he's more playful and interacts with audience more. Plus, I think he's a better guitarist than pianist, and it shows in these one man, one instrument parts of the show.

Oh, definitely guitar. I's never really seen him do that before the Musicology tour, at least to that extent. The people I spoke to who had never seen him live before said it was their favorite part of the set and seemed genuinely surprised that he could do something like that.

A lot of folks still just see Prince as a synthetic, overproduced commodity like Madonna or MJ or someone, and have never gotten to experience his more organic musical qualities. Shoot, some people I know swear he didn't really play the guitar parts in the Super Bowl show. They just don't know because Prince rarely puts that stuff out in front on any of his records, and when he does, he strips it of it's rawness (see "Fury").
