7th Sept 1993- Radio 1 Live Broadcast

Ooooh yes!! I've just found a bundle of old tapes of mine & found my recording of this Radio 1 gig!! Ahhh man It's so funky! I remember my best pal & I tried ringing the BBC radio 1 phone number about 100 times to win a ticket for this gig. Did any one here on the org attend it? Apparently it was a thank you gig for his fans. We were in 6th year at school & skipped school this afternoon waiting for Prince to come on the radio. Ha ha, dancing about crazy in her kitchen in our school uniforms, thinking we were Mayte!! Ah sweet memories! "B4 we go, b4 we go, Hornz kick ass!" biggrin

I was not at the show but it's a great wee set. Peach is very memorable from what I remember, will have to dig it out again tonight for a listen.

This was a very busy day for Prince. He played the R1 gig during the day, then played the final Act II show in the evening at Wembley Arena, then a few hours after that he played the aftershow at Bagleys in Kings Cross.

Phew!

Both 1999 & America are really super fast, funky versions. Listening to that band then, they are well tight & had a superb sound. You can't help be blown away. I find that wee radio 1 show very, very enjoyable to listen to!! Must admit, I do wish the npg I heard in the summer had sounded more like this. Was the radio presenter Simon Bates? The guy was speechless after he saw Prince do his thing! And no wonder! cool

I'm pretty sure it was Simon Bates I remember him making a sarky comment about his bosses "if he doesn't how your head's on the block"

I listened to it live and got my sister in law to tape it.It's on the Rock Over Germany boot IIRC.

Think i'll go and dig it out

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

It was recorded before a small audience at BBC Broadcasting house and broadcast live during Simon Bates' R1 show.

Simon bates had received a call from Prince's people 3 days earlier saying that Prince wanted to do a live show on R1 for the fans who could not make it to his Wembley concerts, and as a sort of thank you to all fans.
