Prince songs in unexpected places

In church

So here is a video of a version of Housequake being performed in a church or some sort of religious gathering evidenced by a lady quoting the Bible at the start.I loved this performance. The sped up vocals are replaced by rapping but the horns and bass are totally faithful to the original and sound funky as hell. If church was like this I would go every Sunday 4 sure!

Too bad they jacked up the bass line. The bass line is one of the biggest key elements in the song and they are playing it wrong. no no no!

eek Wow, yep that tops it for wierd places to hear Prince music, especially that song! Actually, I think the band played that song really well. I'm just shocked that he said, "If you know how to party say Hell Yeah!" then went into "God's prescence is da funk." Lawd, these kids today...lol

They know church is dull and that the music is usually boring as shit so they're trying to get butts in the seats by attempting to be hip.

Like in "Sister Act", only way less entertaining.

God, I'm bitchy right now. Excuse me while I log the fuck off.

Housequake in CHURCH? That would be the last place I would ever imagine this song to be played. lol

The bass line is so off, but the effort is 'Average' I guess? Still confused at "God's Presence Is The FUNK"? omfg

Twice last Saturday I heard Prince unexpectedly, first at the Golden Centre in Thames (Pop 8000 and its only shopping mall) they played Kiss on the intercom and then Sign your name by Terence Trent Darby and Gloria by Laura Branigan (Great to eat McDonalds by). Its a shame such great music is resignated to mall muzak.

Then at the Hotpools in Miranda (75km south of Auckland) they played the long version of Purple Rain over the intercom.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

A radio personality in Chicago, Roe Conn, was playing Electric Chair as his intro the other day. I was like eek as Roe is not the type who would play a random (but AWEsome) Prince song. His show mainly deals with Chicago politics, and is on the same station as Rush Limbaugh...so yeah, not the typical place to hear something like that.

On this sports talk show I listen to "King David" show in Tampa, the producer is from Minnesota and always play Prince as the outro and intro...

One of the host doesnt like Prince so the producer slips in all types of Prince songs...lol

It's funny, but sports talk show is definitely an unexpected place.....

At the 2:38 mark, you can hear him say "....from the Boogie Down" sounds like they are having some serious church up in the Bronx, NYC!

"Uptown" got played in the malls quite often. I suppose the malls over here pay for a number of songs to be played over the course of a certain period of time and some smartass had included "Uptown" on the playlist. I love "Uptown", but it really isn't the type of a song I'd expect to hear in a public place. It was just silly.

its so clearly not a church with the language being used in the song and neither is it a religious gathering. The board is just odd

Dance... Let me see you dance

"The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".

When I ran the band for our Baptist church's intermediate school praise band, we took popular songs and re-worked the lyrics as Christian lyrics (if needed). We did two Prince songs:

"One of Us" - I know, it's a cover, but we did it Prince-style

"Guitar" - We re-wrote this one as "My God" and let me tell you, it ROCKED.

When I told the youth minister that I wanted the band to play some Prince, his response was, "Play all the Prince you can!" Cool dude!

BTW, Lakewood Church IS like that every Sunday! You might see Joel Osteen on TV, but if you watch on the internet, you can see the whole service. The first 45 minutes are music, and his band ROCKS OUT. It's full of Grammy winners, and they can give the NPG a run for their money.

Click on this link, pick a Joel Osteen service, and watch a few minutes. You will see they ROCK.

Another church that has an incredible, and I mean INCREDIBLE band, is T.D. Jakes'. I've been to his church and let me tell you, his band rocks every bit as much as Lakewood's.

Here is a link to his service
