Cookie Jar - Is There A Better Quality?

The version I have starts after the intro, from the 3rd line of the song.

And oh yes, George Clinton must've been mighty proud headbang

the one i have starts like this:

Another life goes 2 the winner
Another soul goes 2 the dream
Another hell goes 2 the sinner
Don't give up no matter how tough it seems

if you mean Fuzzy Haskins's version: Prince's is pretty different. Prince or someone added a whole lot more lyrics.

^ Same here. My copy is from The Work Volume 2, Disc 4. The sound quality is okay, but not stellar. However, that version does include the intro. Maybe Digital Gardener will chime in on what other boots include it.

i found one version that is edited as stated in the OP. I do not know why but it seems it was user error. The sound quality is about the same as the best that I have heard.

The version I have is from the Work It 2.0 Vol.3, which I assumed it has all of the circulating outtakes in updated condition.

Time to hunt for the Jewel set. Thanks ya'll.

Due to a recording engineers mistake, the first minute or so of "Cookie Jar" was accidentally erased from the 24 track master tape.

Lost in the ethers forever i'm afraid.

Ok, so there's no full version after all.

Yes , at the time Box Of Chocolates and 'Parade Demo's' weren''t out yet

but the outtakes on those 2 free fan releases are better sounding smile

No, unless Prince rerecorded the missing parts afterwards (no record of him doing so exists but who knows?), even HE doesn't have the full version lol

The story was told in a Uptown Magazine issue about P's recording sessions at Sunset Sound IIRC. The manager called him in person to apologize for that engineer mistake and offer compensation, and he really was afraid P would get mad, but apparently P had a "shit happen" reaction and didn't seem to care much and that was it.

I found a version that starts with the line:

Another hell goes 2 the sinner

I think that may be what is being refered to here. The original version is vastly different.

So yes the answer to you question is: yes there are versions with the intro and first 2 lines. They are pretty much the same quality.

That release is so old it's now better known as Ye Olde Jewel Box.

The original Jewel Box was reissued 100 years ago with different art, but i'm sure it had the same tracks as the original.

Go join your local archeology team and download it, it's still out there..............somewhere.

Why would George be proud? Fuzzy Haskins wrote the song.

But most of prince's version was added by prince. There is not much lyrically to Fuzzy's version.

As much as Prince's version uses the main chorus/refrain from the P-Funk version, it is really a totally different song, with music and lyrics totally different from the original versions (I view Fuzzy Haskins version as the original with the Parlet version being the most known.)
