In Praise of the "Sam's Club" Show

Lately I've been listening to the "Sam's Club" (aka, Uncle Sam's, Sam's Danceteria) show a lot. Really raw, extremely tight and the crowd is WAY into it (I'd love to know what prompting some of those wild screams). For my money this is far and above the number one audience tape I'd love to have a soundboard for.

Highlights include:

The crowd's reaction to the opening notes of "Head" (sounds like a prison riot)

The "Partyup" chant during "Head"

The a capella break in "Still Waiting"

The re-arranged version of "Crazy You"

And of course "Everybody Dance" (simply because its such a rarity)

Anyway hopes are that maybe someday a better recording of will migrate into the network, even better maybe a video. Does anyone know if this show has any historical signifigance, or are we just lucky that someone was able to catch him in high form on a hot night with a great audience?

One additional question, is the sound quality for this show noticeably better on the new City Nights set?

I think generally a first avenue soundboard box set should be a consideration for prince given the vast diversity of his performances of this show right through to 7/7/7...

As for the city lights version, I can't say I've heard it but wouldn't imagine it to be that much better to be honest confused

Let's hope so! I plan to look for it when I have time over the holidays so I'll report back...
