I've never quite believed what i've read when it comes to why he pulled The Black album, the whole bad trip thing, i mean why pull an album when it's been shipped, apologising and saying don't buy it in a secret message in the next video but then play 2 songs from it on the albums replacement's tour. something's not quite right. would've made an awesome 2 disc set. i've always loved Lovesexy and would be in my Prince top 3 albums.

cool

(I'm a bit late to the party,) but I think that Prince valued his image more than money, especially at this time, so pulling the black album was actually to promote it?, He must have known it would leak, and played Bob George at concerts as a *wink**wink**nudge*nudge*. He might have pulled it and said he had a spirtual epiphany to make it even more dark and "hardcore"

And I think the concept of a double album would be better as a 3 disc set, a HATEdisc with songs like Bob George, a SEXYdisc with Alphabet St. and Rockhard in a funkyplace and a LOVEdisc with Lovesexy and the like

When 2 r in luv....is on the Black......because it is a MIS CON - cep - tion that 2 r in luv just because of SEX!

That's not it at all. Its on TBA because its quite dirty and explicit (penetration/his tongue in her pussy/rivers and oceans etc). But the song isn't about two people being in love just because of sex, its about how incredible sex is when you're actually in love with the other person. In no way does the song imply that they are ONLY in love BECAUSE of sex, or that they are mistaking sex for love itself. Its part of the reason as to why it was also suitable for Lovesexy - because its actually quite a positive song, depite the filth!

How did you come to your conclusion, out of interest?

No "Alphabet St.", No Deal.

for me, it's no bob george, no deal.

to me that song pretty overlaps with the origins of gangsta rap. there's really only a few tracks that are considered gangsta that predate it. (schooly d, ice-t and boogie down productions)

NWA didn't release straight outta compton til 88 and the black album was already floating around by that time.

so in terms of the history alone, it's a killer track! but when you hear it, it's so full on...there's not another track like it!

Considering the stories about Prince's spiritual conflict during the post Dream factory era, I think it would have been interesting if he'd used tracks from both the Black Album and Lovesexy to create a single work to portray his inner turmoil. Maybe something like this:

DARKside

1. Le Grind

2. Scarlet P*ssy

3. Superfunkicalifragisexy

4. When 2 R In Love

5. Rock Hard in a Funky Place

LOVEside

1. Eye Know

2. Glam Slam

3. Anna Stesia

4. I Wish U Heaven

5. Lovesexy (or perhaps Positivity)

Thoughts?

Positivity instead of Anna Stesia

Anna Stesia is that grey area from dark 2 light or light 2 dark

That was exactly the way the concert was presented (dark v. light, good v. evil, love v. lust) and you're right, that would have made a very interesting double album concept.

Don't think there should be a ballad on the darkside. This way you get all the freaky songs on one side (scarlet Pussy is nice, but Bob George is much stonger).

To keep the vibe of the darkside, start with Lovesexy and Dance on. I wish you heaven sounds like a nice message to close the album.
