Prince and Kenny Rogers

in 1987 Kenny sang a composition by Prince called "You're my Love".

What's the story beyond this weird collaboration?

And Prince's song fit in great, very nice song

Had no idea Kenny Rogers recorded a Prince composition. Thought Lionel Richie was Kenny's go-to guy for 80's pop hits.

I think I read somewhere that at that time Prince was just writing songs for others. It is under the pseudonym Joey Coco. He also wrote some songs that Celine Dion covered and Howard Hewett. Quite possible Kenny never even knew it was a "Prince" song.

Side note: El Debarge sings backup on "You're My Love".

Truly weird.

It was not a collaboration as such. According to this http://www.princevault.co...ey_Used_To it was Kenny Rogers' management that asked Prince to contribute a track.

It was then totally re-recorded by Rogers and his band for inclusion on his album. Prince did not contribute to the released version.

I just assumed it was because they had a mutual friend in Sheena Easton. Rogers dueted with her on "We've got tonight" in 1983.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I never knew that, thank you for the info.

It's the only Kenny Rogers on my whole drive, and I have over 250g of music. It's a pretty catchy little tune, if not somewhat generic. I didn't know that was El singing backup, cool.

Kenny's manager was one of the people who put "We Are The World" together.
