Prince's Best Work On NPG Records/Music Club

For Me, I would say Crystal Ball, Exodus & Xpectation, everything else is a disappointment [including other artist released on it too]. How do you feel about prince's NPG RECORDS/Music Club label as a whole?

...And another thing, Why are so many of the album covers for those albums so cheap & weird looking???? WTF?!

Habibi
Van Gogh
Underneath The Cream
When I Lay My Hands On U
Supercute
Madrid 2 Chicago
The Question of U (wild guitar version)
Jukebox With A Heartbeat

So many others I first heard on npgmusicclub, really great stuff he was doing. Alas it would not continue, and much of his philosophy has changed.

Basically this is yet another thread about Prince "losing it after leaving WB", but you decided to name it "on NPG Records/Music Club" instead of naming it "Post-WB" as usual, so it sounds like a brand new topic? lol lol lol

Holy shit!

I deeply love most of what Prince released after he left WB.

I was really just asking people what they thought about that particular music released. Take it whatever way you want to......And yes, the album covers are funny looking too [tell me I'm wrong]. Some of you people here..... disbelief

The 3 you named are among my favorites as well. Just as good as those, for me, are The Gold Experience (NPG & WB), Musicology (NPG & Universal)

Other ones that I like are 3121 (NPG & Universal), Lotusflow3r (including Elixir, minus MPLSound)

And a lot of people disagree, but I actually like the Musicology cover & also the interior artwork, of the store release.

Thank you for answering the question, instead of ridiculing me for no reason. smile

There were a few diamonds in the rough from NPGMC and NPG Records like High,
MY Medallion, Supercute, U Make My Sunshine , Musicology, 3121 etc...but the majority always seemed to lack the attention to detail of when he had WB looking over his shoulder or maybe....(say it quietly) he's dried up

Prince has spoken of his frustration about WB wanting him to think in terms of lead singles off of albums. And I believe there have been a few stories of WB rejecting albums (Lovesexy, Batman and D&P I think) because they didn't hear a lead single and Prince ended up creating Batdance, Alphabet St and Gett Off in response. If that is true then I think Prince's projects were stronger when he had people to challenge him.

Me too - he clearly needs an arch enemy...without WB everybody gets the sharp end of his tongue regardless of whether it's justified or baseless
