DVD Live sexy no longer available?

Hi,

I once had the VHS of Live sexy (filmed in Dortmund 1988) and I would like to get my hands on the DVD because it's one of the best concerts ever performed by Prince (or any artist for that matter...).

When I googled on the dvd, there was nothing to be found. Could anyone please tell me if it's still available? Thanks a million in advance! biggrin

It NEVER was available on DVD, only VHS and LD. But bootlegs are your friends.

The two VHS videos were actually named "Lovesexy" 1 & 2, not Live sexy.

There are many versions of this circulating on dvd, but the best quality and the one you need is this...

Livesexy Uncut

1 DVD-R
Label : Fullasoul / Superball
Catalogue : N/A
Interactive Menu : Yes
Source : Professionally Filmed
Quality : EX+
Duration :
Year Of Release : 2005

COMMENT

A joint venture between 2 people who release amongst the best and most consistently high quality products - this was always going to be an excellent release - and it does not disappoint. This is the unedited complete broadcast footage of the final night of the European Lovesexy tour. The show has been churned out time and time again on various releases with varying degrees of quality. All previous releases have been taken from either the official VHS/Laserdisc and until now the Global Funkschool 'Lovesexy Live' DVD (listed HERE) was the best circulating. This Fullasoul / Superball release contains the entire show (unedited) which has many, many different camera angles and crowd shots - all of which never made the official release. As if that wasn't reason enough to praise this release for eternity (and believe me, I will), it also contains the complete 'Cross The Line' interlude (the spoken verses based on Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet (Capulet's Garden)") which was heavily edited out of the official release. Not only that, but the crowd footage before the encore performance of 'Alphabet St.' has been left intact on this release too. All this means that the running time is over 5 minutes longer than the official release. The menu's are very creative, and included is a short note from Fullasoul with details about the show, etc. Now, I'm done with the adulation I have one tiny criticism. There are a few spelling mistakes / incorrectly titled songs in the menu section, which is no big deal, but glaringly obvious. Apart from that I cannot fault this release at all. A stunning release of the ultimate Prince concert.

Cool! This should be the version which was broadcast simultaneously live over Europe at the same time the concert took place. I asked my parents to record this broadcast and when I came home from Dortmund late that night around 3:30am, I watched the concert on TV again till around 6:00 am.

And yes, it was actually called Lovesexy 1 & 2....true. wink

THANKS!

Oooh, I think it's time to upgrade my copy of this show, this sounds like the definitive version. I think my boot copy is probably the Global Funkschool one since it's been a while since I've seen it.

I remember the VHS release, #1 was the second half of the show and vice versa geek

as far as i can remember 1 was the pg version and 2 was the 18 version with the more naughty bits in it, it sucked big time compared to the broadcast, in the uk it was broadcast on the show wired on channel 4 so it had adverts, i currently have the dvd which was ripped from the laserdisc (i think) and it's fuckin great cool

Yes, I don't know what version you have, but the release from "Excalibur" is ripped from the laserdisc and is spread over two discs.

However, I personally think that the Fullasoul/Superball release is of better quality, it just looks better imo, and of course it's the uncut version.

Whichever version one may have....it's a great show.

You will not be disappointed with this version.

And yes, crazy how the official version got the tape numbers mixed up, I would not like to think that that was done on purpose. lol

yeah i would need to look at the artwork with the file on my harddisk to see which version it is, it fits on 1 disc although it's lists at being 2hr 2 mins long and 4.3gb in size but yeah it's great looking. who needs an official release when we have this.

IRISHFAN

I have the two videos, Lovesexy Live 1 & 2, I bought them back in 1989. Unfortunately when i got my act together to get them copied to DVD (only a few years ago), the quality was very poor, as I had watched the tapes to death! I'd LOVE a good copy on DVD, I LOVE that concert...

I'd call simulating sex on a 4 poster bed, simulating oral sex with your backing singer and singing about having sex with your sister quite naughty smile

I wish someone could provide a definitive list of differences between the TV broadcast, the VHS release and the LD release, or release a bootleg with the 3 versions side 2 side. No one seems to have the three versions so he/she could compare sad .

I don't know any differences between the VHS and the laser disc. I do know the differences between the official broadcast (on Dutch national TV) and the VHS, though:

The broadcast on Dutch TV wasn't interrupted by adds or anything, but the camera men had some trouble following Prince during his moves. During a few of his dances the camera man "lost" him and Prince was out of the picture for a split second or more.

The VHS was edited and for the better: the camera views were better than the original broadcast and the time between the last song (1999) and the encore (Alfabet St.) was shortened. Also the lenght between the band dissapearing after act 1 and the intermission was shortened. So, all for the better.

The only thing they mixed up was releasing Act 1 as part 2 and Act 2 as part 1.

Still, I really cannot understand why this concert has never been released on dvd in stead of just VHS and laser disc.

Another major change is the fact that both parts contained the Erotic City intro (as opening credits) and the crowd sound ending (end credits).

I have the classic 2-CD bootleg from the early 90's, was it taken from the laserdisc? (I'm 100% positive it wasn't taken from the VHS).

I also think that my DVD version is Lovesexy Uncut, but there's a fade at the end of Eye Know, and I don't get why bootleggers would have faded: it sounds more like the end of the first side of a released LD, so I'm confused.

I don't think it was a "mess-up" re the old VHS tapes being Act 1 as part 2 and Act 2 as part 1. The show is in 2 opposing halves - the evil and the good. Which pretty much reflects the Black Album/Lovesexy story - one album being shelved for being "evil" and a new, enlightened, epiphany work coming out. Hence, Prince was making a point by making the "good" section of the concert Number 1. Furthermore, it is the section of the concert that also contained all of the new music of the time, Lovesexy, so it also made sense to promote that music ahead of the old stuff. Basically, just another Prince quirk that's either artistically motivated, a marketing coup, all of the above or none of them! lol
